when i want to make a turn (even left or right), a "gi gi" sound will come from the engine bay (may be from the wheel), and the steering wheel cant turn as well sometime, if i keep drive straight, it wont have any problems, anyone know whats wrong with my car, my one is 97TF auto, thanks.

Check the Power Steering fluid.

Black metal canister on one side of the engine bay, Cap looks like a radiator cap.

Low fluid means that it will be out of sight.

could be a cv is the "gi gi" kinda like a click click. look at the rubber boot thing just behind your front wheel. if its torn. it could be a cv

to remove the air from power steering you fill up the resivior then turn run engine

turn wheel lock to lock dont let the fluid run out

inside the power steering pump is a non return vale that may be sticking

where else has the powersterring been leaking

check the belt tension to the powersterring pump

at the bottom of the steering column in the engine bay is a universal and the connection to the powersteering unit it has a yoke a spline and a bolt make sure it has not stripped or got loose

Perhaps your weather guards are catching on the wheels??? Is the car lowered at all?

Jack the front up with both wheels off the ground. Make sure its full of fluid. Turn wheels lock to lock with cap off powersteer level. Do this several times it should get any air out of the lines. If you find it binds get it checked out. I wouldnt even drive it if i was you if the thing doesnt turn left or right. You can easily cause an accident and your insurance co probably wont cover you either. Dont mess with it if your unsure what you are doing.

sounds like no power steering fluid. could check the steering rack itself. just replaced mine last week, it died and pissed fluid all over my garage floor. also sometimes the fluid connections to the steering rack work loose/deteriorate to the point that they leak fluid. check that as well.

i was going to say the same thing as spider dan, My cars Steering rack died at 40,000km's. When the car was cold i coulnt turn the wheel right at all until the car warmed up very and even then it felt like i was driving with no power steering very hard, took it to mitsu and yep new steering rack for me they said, Luckily it was still under warrenty. so no cost to me PHEW 800 bux it was they said

Hopefully it's not that mate

Cheers

same problem i had wen my rack was leaking.

would just suddenly not let me turn. and it did the noise described as well as a different kind of whine noise too,

cost me $100 for a new condition rack from the wreckers through a mate. otherwise i was quoted about $180 max for an exhanged one
