Hi
My friend is having some major issues with his TE V6 Auto Tranny. Here is what happens:
Start the car and put it into gear and thumps really HARD into Drive or reverse. Driving away, first and second gear shifts also thump hard then the Neutral indicator starts flashing and it goes into limp mode (3rd gear starts). Switching the car off resets it out of limp, but it
thumps into gear and gets back into limp mode again fairly quickly.
Tried the Battery disconnect but it didn't help. Tranny oil is still red and there is no slipping so I figure it must be electrical. Any ideas?
thanks

Yupo, I had this in my KE once.
PUT SOME FLUID IN IT!!!
I had a cracked hose to my ATF cooler and lost ALL my fluid lol
Best to do a drain from the plug and refill the whole thing with some new stuff. Then disconnect the negative battery teminal for 10 mins, then let it idle in N for 10 mins then drive it for a bit like a granny.
If this dont solve it then take it to a pro to have a look.
EDIT: I see youve tried some of this already.........really should read ur entire post before i reply next time :)

Theres a problem with Lancers where the gearbox needs to be reset sometimes as often as every 40,000km. My dads car had this problem and the car was doing the exact same thing that you're describing, he got the gearbox reset and the car worked fine. Could be the problem

are you checking the fluid level on level ground in drive engine running hot ?
more likely not getting enenough fluid to the box prob needs a new filter
check engine mountings and gear selection cable
oil pump or torque converter or kickdown solenoid
oil pressure test to diagnose
next possible cause it tranny computer module /sensor

check the auto computer (tcu), these had a problem with leaking capacitors, if you remove the tcu and take the top off have a look if any caps are leaking also will probably be a strong smell too,
