Thats the air flow metre. Why would you want to bypass it?

Checking the signal voltage against a known good car would be a more suitable test.
Sounds like your idle control solenoid/stepper motor (ICS) has failed though. It is the thing on the throttle body which bypasses the throttle to allow enough air for idle, even know the throttle is completely sealed off.
To ghetto fix it, use the idle up screw and do the idle air manually by screwing the idle screw out.

Just disconnect it and try and start your car, if it fires up good chance it's the culprit.

i dont think you can bypass it, but its more likely the ISC. now, if you do get it tested and it happens to be the airflow meter then you are better off going to the wreckers and getting a second hand one..

If you took the air flow meter off the car then it couldnt be the culprit...it ran the same without it on.

If it does the same thing with it unplugged/plugged in then it's not the air flow meter.
:stoopid: thats what i said in the previous post lol

Fuel relay? or pump?
The relay went on my car long time ago now, but it had the same symptons, could turn over would run (could be anywhere from 5 seconds to a few mins) then it would die, could do this multiple times before it wouldnt move completely.

Could be ISC But mine turned out to be a vaccum Leak, Turned car on with AFM In and revs would rise and drop, rise and drop then die, unplug the MAF car would run like new.
Dont just unplug it, its obvioulsy covering a problem which needs to be looked at.
Get a mech to check out the codes for ya.
