I want to change the water pump belt on a 2.6.
When I start to slacken off the mounting bolts as per the manual water starts to leak out.
Is this right? Seems a little catastrophic.
Also, are there three bolts to loosen plus the adjusting bolt?
Thanks

If you've drained the coolant via the radiator, there will still be some residual coolant left in the block. I don't know about the 4s, but there should be a drain plug somewhere near the bottom of the block. I wouldn't worry too much about it, just put some rags underneath to catch the coolant as it comes out. It's like taking an oil filter off; a bit of oil is bound to come out when you unscrew it.

Seems funny to loose water just to change the belt. Must be the way it's designed though.
Thanks for your answer. the manual is a bit vague on this.

How old is the pump? If you've got the belt off, you may as well change the pump and gasket if it's age warrants it.
