Looking for some help please!!
The 3.0L 12 valve is nearing the end of its life  and i don't want a reco motor, at 4 grand it's not worth it. So what else fits??? Aussie Magna gooroo Blake told me about the Mivec but i can't find anyone that'll import 1 and they can be a bit pricey. So what else will fit? Budget won't really go too far past 5 grand but i still want more power to keep up with some of the V8's going around. Any help would be great!!
Cheers!!

For a mivec youd be pushing it well beyond 5 grand i would assume.
Why not a new V6 out of a TE, TF, TH? Perhaps a 3.0L or 3.5L 24v
They would be nice options. I know there's a place in queensland that does a magna 3.5 conversion drive away for $3995. Not bad

I'm not too sure how true this is, but i have been told when they changed models from the TS to the newer shape, thus changing the engine from 12 to 24 valves, they changed the direction of the engine, if so what sort of work would need to be done and could i keep my manual box???

I know the engine swap sides from RHM to LHM then back to RHM later on
You just need to find a motor from a TE as they are all Right Hand Mounts.

What motor is in the TE? i'm not too sure with shapes, just the engine numbers, and will it meet up to the TS box?

Im not 100% sure if it will mate your gearbox but its the 24v 3.0L in the TE.

The motor in your car now is the SOHC 12v V6 (I have the same model in manual)
The motor from the TE and onward is the SOHC 24v 3.0 V6 and later the SOHC 24v 3.5 V6
Neither of these engines are a bolt in proposition. 4 grand for a reco V6 is cheap compared to the cost of putting one of those in.
They are oriented oppositely in the engine bay compared to the TR.
I'm not sure if the manual box is the same, I'd guess not, I think they made new ones for the new V6.
The only other motor that MIGHT (and I stress might as I'm doing this conversion and STILL haven't gotten a 100% answer) bolt in is the DOHC 24v 3.0l V6 from the Japanese and US Diamantes.
This engine isnt cheap tho...so again you're back to square 1.
I've been quoted $2,000 to get my motor reconditioned...perhaps you should price more places.
They were called KB Motors, in Windsor, NSW if you want to call them their number is 45775557
Address is unit 20/124 Ham Street South Windsor.
I talked to a guy there and he was REALLY nice and helpful...seemed pretty interested in a performance magna...he agreed to do the work to my DOHC when I get it..
Talk to him, I'm sure he can help you. $4k sounds too much.
Edit: PS: The earliest DOHC 24v 6G72 MIVEC was from the 95 Diamante 30M and it was the shape of the TE, wrong way around for the TR, I know because I was considering this motor myself.
a while ago when i had my TR just magna spares in adelaide quoted me around $3000 fully installed to bolt in a quad cam 2ltr v6 from mitsubishi - i drove one he had there and it went pretty damn hard - at least the same or maybe a bit quicker than my 3ltr v6 tr.
he also said it might be possible to do a quad cam v6 3ltr buit he wanted a confirmed order before he imported an engine.

Stay far far away from attempting something like that... $$$$$$

I dunno about staying away from it...just make sure if you want to do something like that, That you know how much work is involved and how much money is involved.
As long as you've done your homework and are 100% willing to do it...then there's no drama's :)
Buuuuuttt
Seen as though you're not interested in spending mega dollars..
Ring the people I told you to ring..and get them to reco your motor...it's 1/2 the price you were quoted and they will do exactly the same as what the other place quoted you will do...and do yourself a favour and throw in the extra 800 for a balance and a port and polish..you're still saving 1200 bucks ;)
