Hi Guys I have a 99 TH sports tiptronic. I am looking the option of having a EMS 8860 ECU fitted to it.
http://www.enginemanagement.com.au/product_info.php?products_id=108&osCsid=5503c45abe2ff6b0940444b09f845326

But the people who make the ecu have asked if the traction control is operated by the stock ECU adjusting timing, or if it has a secondary butterfly that is uses to stop the throttle?

Also I have heard that the Invecs adaptive logic 4spd auto boxes have their own ECU that most aftermarket ECUS can't control, does anyone know why, or what problems I would likely face?

I know that everyone else here likes the Greddy E manage piggyback style ecus, and Booya has a replacement ecu as he has a manual, but I know the people who make the EMS ECUS and they are willing to use my car as a development car so maybe they can offer other magna owners the same ECU in the future..

Any help would be appreciated, hopefully I won't blow up my car and add another ECU manufacturer to the list of options open to magna owners

OK to start with TCL has has its own ECU which talks to the ABS ECU to detect wheel slip by comparing relative speed of each wheel.

The TCL ECU reduces engine torque by closing the throttle valve (backs off the throttle using a vacuum driven actuator)(feels like the guts has been dragged out of the motor) and retarding the timing.
The TCL does talk to the Engine/Auto ECU. This means yes to both points in your first question.

TCL comprises of, steering wheel sensor, stop lamp s/w, Vacuum actuator, ABS ECU, Vacuum tank, Acc pedal position sensor, Engine A/t ECU, TCL ECU, Vac Soleniod.

The Auto is combined in the engine ECU, which is different to the manual engine ECU to the point that the actual plugs and sockets on the ECU are a different shape and not interchangeable.

As to the second question there are differences between the sports and standard auto ECU's, the auto is looking at things like throttle position, acc pedal position sensor(TCL only), speed pulse generators , cruise control, revs, what gear you have selected, these signals are also shared with the engine management part of the ECU.

hope this helps

Thanks for the info man :)
The fact that it retards timing may be bad news to me, making me choose to either keep TCL and either add piggy back ecu, or loose TCL and add a EMS ECU, I dunno I'll talk to EMS more, but its not looking good

Well EMS seem confident that I should be able to keep my TCL with their ECU so now I just need to get it fitted, might buy a set of extractors while I am at it to make the tuning worth while.
