Hey Guys,
The head gasket(s) on my TE V6 have blown and im after some info. Not on how to fix it, because i can do that no worries. I am contemplating a few ideas, that are listed below and would like you to offer your opinions, and ideas as to the following.
IE, what you did, was it worth it, and would you do the same again if the same happened.

1) VRS kit (head gaskets up)

2) Full rebuild on the original motor (rings, bearings, hone, head shave etc)

3) Source second hand 3.0 V6

4) Source and rebuild, with some worthy performance mods a second hand 3.0 V6

5) Upgrade to a 3.5 (no mods or rebuild)

6) Upgrade, with a rebuild and worthy performance mods to a 3.5

and also, do you think it would be worthwhile taking a look inside my rattly notchy 5 spd while im at it?
Cheers all in advance,
Chris

If you have the time, the money and the skills why not just take out your motor and gear box and do a bit of a re-build, get the gear box done up a bit at the same time.

Then again if your going to do that I have always wondered if a DOHC 3.5L out of a pajero will fit into a magna, would make a beast of a car.

fix the head gasket and upgrade to a better magna later

too many mods and you wont gain any value for your current car

Yep, do the minimum to get the car back on the road reliably, and keep saved cash for next car.

3.5 Conversion would be very hard, expencive and time consuming, for bugger all performance gains.

3.0 Mods would be similar to the above.

For the cost of the engine itself along with the time and effort and money with putting it in, u could sell the current car and buy one with a 3.5 in it for less.

Coming from someone whos done this crap...
Either upgrade to the 3.5L, Or just do the HG's on your current engine.
Save for a better engine.
if i just bought a different engine it would of worked out cheaper in the end .

So did you upgrade from a 3.0 to a 3.5?
If you did, was it worth doing. Not moneywise, because it sounded like you had problems, but power wise, was it worth going for a 3.5 over a 3.0?
Cheers,
Chris

hehe, nah i have a 2nd gen, but with the problems that could go wrong (which they all did) it cost alot of money, and is still costing me money, on a stock 3L
Its better to buy a 3.5L, do the timing belt etc while its on a stand, and drop that in.
IMO anyway, thats what i would do

Thats what i was thinking. Probably the most expensive way to go, but it is something i would like to do, and besides, if i can pick a 3.5 up for a few hundred dollars, that would be the cheapest 15kW like...ever!!!!!
