Anyone know the correct torque wrench settings for the two bolts holding on the rocker covers on a 3.0L V6 - my front one has started leaking oil like a sieve.

Gregorys manual refers to a setting, but doesn't actually give it. I know it's a bit finnicky using a torque wrench, but experience has taught me that usually, they won;t leak if you torque them up right (too easy to over-tighten a new gasket)

Cheers.

I know that the 3.5 is 3.5Nm which isnt very much at all. You could try nipping them up a bit to stop the leak, but the best bet would be simply to buy a gasket kit. This will be a new rocker cover gasket and three seals for the spark plug tubes as well. This will last alot longer than tightening a few of the bolts.

is it leaking past the bolt? or seeping out through bottom of rocker cover?
generally hand tight will do with a qaurter turn from there.. no further or you will crack the cover.

Thanks Hunter - was gonna fit a new gasket anyway. So you reckon it's 3.5 NM? The manual reckons I should use a bit of sealent at each end where the cover has a curved recess to fit over the rocker arm bearing caps. You do this, or just fit them dry?

Dont know about the sealant hey, ive never really had to use it to get a good seal on my engine. Altho what you described for your cover might be slighly different to the 3.5. If its a factory manual just follow what it says and you should be fine. Really easy job.

use non silicone based sealant around the areas where the cover goes over the cam. Use new bolt seals, 99% of people do not and end up with leaks again.

General rule of thumb... keep tightening it until it goes "cheesy", then back it off half a turn :bowrofl:
