View Full Version : Super Lows...

...aren't really super low. I was looking at my car the other day, and there's still a sizeable a gap between the wheel arch and tyre. It might just be me, but I think Superlows bring the car to an acceptable height... to eliminate the stock 4WD look.

On all accounts, it doesnt look 'lowered' (say compared to a Commodore with new springs). I'm probably being too picky though, and my rims aren't big enough (17's... they do look quite nice though).

But does anyone else feel the same? Are there any lower springs out there, or will I have to compress the super lows to go lower?

Yeh the wheel arches make the car look higher then it really is. You can compress your super lows, but any lower will make it harder to get into driveways/go over speed bumps and you also run the risk of damaging your front end suspension as it wasn't designed to sit that low.

Personally I went flares as it creates an illusion of the car being lower in the wheel arches, but flares would look out of place without a kit, which just = more $$$ :(.

I'd hate to see what it'd look like on even 19's... you'd HAVE to compress the springs.

I guess the bodykit option is one idea, my front/rear bar need replacing anyhow...

...might try get some pics of my car this arvo. Get a second/third/fourth opinion on it!

Yeh show us some pics, if you do go the kit path, don't go any lower you'll regret it when you damage your brand new front end (been there done that ).

I have lows on the rear and theres still about an inch from the tyre to the arch.

I believe this is the perfect height, the car still looks lower than a 4wd but I am still able to get in and out of most driveways, except sometimes my towball scrapes but thats no biggie.

yea, i know exactly what you mean. i got superlows but it doesnt seem right. i want the arch eating up my tire. i've just heard to many bad things bout compressing and bodykit is expensive. dunno what to do

once you get used to the lowered ride height you sort of loose the wow factor when you look at your own car i guess :( Im going through the same thing but mine is only runnin on lows so it will dropped again very soon which turns my frown upside-down

The Kingspring superlows i have have been compressed further and i really don't have much trouble driving over speed humps or in and out of driveways. And i don't think i have really damaged any of my suspension either. My shocks aren't even bleeding.

Yeh i guess you can't wear out the shocks if they don't even move :P.
I have lows sp and i used to scrape things, so superlows compressed would be heaps worse, unless you're lucky and don't encounter any steep driveways.

i rearely scrape and my car is 55mm off the ground, can get over speed humps up drive ways etc fine, and thes nothing wrong with my suspension

It's called being cautious and comes down to ability and skill. If you encounter a really steep driveway dont drive straight down it, go slow and on an angle. It's all really pretty easy!

Yeah, thats what I've kinda been thinking... how much did it set you back to compress them more?

But I have had a few cases where there is a car parked on either side of my drive way and there was no where near enoughg room to get the angle needed to get up and I'm only on super lows.

Honestly I have thought about lowering my car more but my driveway is a pain and also when I got my exhaust done the guy scraped my cover that protects the bottom of my engine from dirt. Whatever it is called... And the car wasn't even lowered at the time. So there are circumstances where it could be very difficult.

Frogi, I do agree with you though. When I first got mine they weren't as low as I was expecting. It is a good ride hide though and after looking at some pics of my car just then before it was lowered definatly an improvement.

I scrape my front bar pretty much every day getting out of the driveway at my work. Then again getting out of the KFC driveway, and again if I'm not careful in my own driveway. I've got standard Ralliart height springs, but Ralliart front bar which sits, dunno how far off the ground? 100-110mm or so? If I went lower I would break my front bar every day. lol You guys who are really low and "don't have any problems at all with any driveways" are bloody lucky I tell ya, cause I sure do! I must be an "unskillful" driver and not have much "ability". lol

You rarely scrape at 55m? I just can't see how that's possible unless you go out of your way to avoid some driveways/speed bumps, which to me takes away practicality, but thats just me :).

Bingo! Haha nah jokin man.

It's a hard one, cause I've never scraped with the superlows, but then again, I dont have much to scrape (compared to a ralliart). I've got a mate with a VX Clubby, stock height, but he has a GTO front bar, and scrapes ****ing everywhere. He's actually chewed through 2 bars already (over the past 3 years).

You need to take things into consideration.

First of all, your own driveway. If you already scrape or are VERY close and always have people parking either side of it therefore being unable to get out on an angle to avoid scraping. Then.... don't go lower.

Second, How are the places that you frequent? Work, Girlfriend/Boyfriends house, Mates houses, Parents house, The local pub you always drive to, The Brothel you goto once a week. If those have VERY steep driveways or really bad speedhumps. Then maybe you might have to consider NOT lowering it any further.

When coming out of driveways and going over speedhumps be prepared to slow down quite a bit. I'm sure you already know this due to driving on Superlows already.

Also consider who else is going to be driving your car. If others are, they may not take as much care as you would and end up smashing the car into the ground.

Another i may point out is that if someone has the Kingsprings Superlow/Low combination, Then by lowering the rear further it may actually point the noise of your car up giving you more ground clearance at the absolute tip of your car.

I am not aware of the costs of getting springs compressed as i was lucky enough to purchase them off another member who had them done. It may be close to $100 a pair. I think it may be cheaper though.

If you want to go lower i recommend selling the springs you have now and getting the Hotbits Coilovers or have a set of springs made up at KMAC where you get custom made springs.

p.s. if i ever scrape it is usually my tow hooks... and i really don't care if i scrape my tow hooks. haha. scccccccrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrraaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaape.... Meh.....

Yep, that happens to me also. It does get annoying though, especially wen everyone is staring at your car wen you pull up into the carpark.

55mm off the ground and i dont scrape, there are alot of spoon drains speedx humps etc around my area also, i dont have much trouble honestly, just dont roar over hazards , take the car over it responsibly and your all good

Crap angles, I know, but there's not much room in the carport.
