Hey guys first post here...

I recently (well a year ago) inherited my grandfathers '86 Magna SE...

It had 48,000km.... yes thats right.... 48,000km....

Currently its on 57,000k's...
so far i've done all fluids - gear box (expensive stuff!), brakes, coolant & do my engine oil every 5,000k's.

With the age i'm wondering about accessory belts etc, as i'm sure they'd be on their way out!

It also runs REALLY rich & on 3 cyclinders when its cold (replaced all leads, need to check plugs this weekend), but its possibly a carby issue?

Also on full throttle & high rpm (4k + rpm, which it sees once a month!) it lays down a James Bond gray cloud behind me...

apart from that its a sweet daily pimp mobile that gets me 40k's a week!
& driving it is a bit like navigating a boat... well compared to the other car!

Who/where's a good guy to get a general service & get things sorted?
I'm in the lower north shore area os Syd...

PS, yes that was 57,000Km & no winding back...
he never drove it in the rain either :P

Nice Renault!!

Rides like a ship, handles like a ship, has the turning circle of a ship, and the same luggage carrying capacity! Welcome to 1st gen Magnas.

Running on 3 cylinders would most likely be an ingnition issue, check the dizzy cap contacts and plugs. Check your belts and hoses for cracking and hardness, it's probably best to throw some spares in the boot.

In my experience, pretty much anything that goes wrong with a carby magna is a carby issue... Warm up the engine and check that the choke is opening, that could be causing your smoke screen. Also check the running temp, if the thermostat is dead the car won't warm up properly and the choke will stay shut.

go through this link I put up some service book pages as a guide

http://www.mitsubishiclubaustralia.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=814&start=0

smoke on start up or that rev range may be the valve stem seals -replace them

running on 3 cyls is a plug lead or carby issue

ps I dont like renualts take that to the frog forum http://www.aussiefrogs.com/forum/index.php

cheers guys...

well gave it another welly on the way home & absolutely no smoke!
Pretty sure its a sticking choke (was mentioned by a mechanic as the probable cause)

replaced all the plug leads & no difference, the dizzy cap contacts looked a little worn but i cleaned it all up & put it back in place.

I'll give the plugs a lookin at today....

mite also see if i can eliminate which plug isnt sparking when cold... see how it goes...
