Just got my car back from Mitsu dealer 30,000 K service.
$185 dollars thank you, for an oil change. :x
oh, plus $18 for tyre rotation and wheel balance. You think that they could have thrown it in for nicks.
Anyway, I am checkin the car over, the oil level, the cleanliness of the engine yada yada, when I work out I cannot find the oil filter?
Where is it? Would like to do my own, next time. ;)

the oil filter is under the engine - if you can get under it - look from that passenger side towards the middle near the firewall side of the engine - it is about there
hard to explain without a photo sorry!!

Just out of curiosity how much of that was for labour and how much for parts?. The bill should have a break down. If your happy with the labour costs and think you can get the oil and filter cheaper then you can supply these yourself. Your owners servicing book should tell you the approximate time for labour so next time you can have a rough idea of what your up against. Remember that for most of us cars are a luxury and like all luxuries they dont come cheap. Remember these people are running a buisness and have to cover overheads such as leases, wages, training, tools, insurance etc. I do not know if $180 is a reasonable ask for a servicing that you had carried out but if you check your servicing book part of the deal includes checking a whole lot of stuff that although doesnt appear like much still takes time and costs money.

Nigel. About 43 for the oil, 15 for the filter, and yes, they checked a lot of things. They even tire-blacked the tires! Handbrake had been tightened, washer bottle filled, and a few other things have been checked.
They did tell me my front brake pads are down to 50% .. the rears still have 80 to 80% - is that normal??
I remember one of the items on the check list is to 'grease front suspension bushes'... I wonder if they did... ;)
I feel, partic at 30,000, that its worth having the Mitsu people cast their eye over the car, for warranty purposes and for my peace of mind. What if I did the oil change myself.. for about $50 to $60 bucks .. and I missed something important? I suppose its that doubt that keeps the dealers in business. :)
doing an oil change yourself just ensures good lube in your engine so doing it in between services is good.
I take mine to a mitsu dealer but i call round for quotes and basically tell em to price match. they usually go 'oh we can do blah' which is a little bit more expensive but not much they usually use the excuse 'because we use mitsu genuine products.'
I would hope they lubed everything in the service, after all if they didnt and they signed your service book they are saying they did it. If they didnt then id expect them to do it for free.

At 30k, It's virtually the first serious service. You would hope the Mitsu dealer has some pride and would do a good job. This should set your car up for future trouble free operation. I work on office machines ( which have no relevance to cars) but we try to make the early services(and consequent ones) as professonal as possible. The mechanic next door says he can do Mitsu but has he done the courses? Wait till you need the cambelt changed at 90k, then it will be time to have a cow over the cost!!!

the problem with mitsu is they bloody charge for every thing that others will do during the service e.g
tire rotation = $16 ( mitsu charge) extra where as other dont charge extra.????????????//
also they told me my hand brake needs adjust ment and wil cost $30
so i told them wait till 30k service for both of the things.
