Hi Guys,
Just a few questions. I have a stock ralliart auto. Am looking at doing a few things to the exhaust and need some advice on what to do and what would produce the best results e.g. upgrade extractors, hi-flow cat, 2.5inch straight through etc.
By doing this I want to set a basis to get the most out of the magna when i get it supercharged. I live in Mackay and the local exhaust place is a raptor supercharger distributor.
So if anyone could give me some advice that would be nice.
Cheers
Dan

You wont gain squat from the exhaust.
Headers and a hi flow cat would be the way to go, but no point doing the exhaust as its already good enough.
get the exhaust shop to match a custom straight through system to suit your s/c, they are the suppliers so they should know what flow is required.

Pacemaker Extractors, 2.5" flex pipe, 3" metal cat, 18" hotdog, 2.5" mandrel bends, 2.5" straight through muffler.
That's what I got done last week, what a difference it made compared to 2.25" flex, 2.5" ceramic cat, pressbent system I had on it previously.

If you are going to go down the forced induction path, I would be looking at a full 3" system from the extractors back. That means custom 3" Y piece from the headers to the cat, 3" cat, 3" mendrel bent piping and 3" resinators / mufflers to suit the amount of noise you want it to make.
Everyone I've spoken to, including multiple exhaust workshops have told me that they think 2.5" is too small for a boosted 3.5L engine.

Yeah but noise with a 3" system for a supercharged engine will be an issue, with turbo charged exhausts the turbo's are silencers in there own right

Show me a performance car which isn't loud when you boot it............. He's asking what is going to be the best option performance wise to support his future mods.
I never said it wouldn't be loud.

Your right, but who wants a really drowny exhaust. My option is what I have done and would do if it was supercharged, if it was turbo charged I would go 3" as it would be quiter by the turbo's

when tested by an approved tester in vic my car made 88db with straight through mufflers, mine is a duel system... this is under the limit...
i now have baffled mufflers and its still under the limit when tested..
at steady speeds its ok to me and acceptable to others, but when under load or flat to the floor its pretty loud, but not shockingly annoying and loud like a 3" system on a civic for example

I agree mate, it all comes down to personal preference. Some people obviously like their car to be as loud as it can be, personally it isn't my cup of tea. There's always going to be a certain amount of trade off between performance and driveability (and I consider excess noise to be a factor effecting drivabilty).

what improvment do you expect to see? the car has extractors and very close to 2.5" exhaust already... personally id leave it alone or go 3" .. no point in pulling off a system to replace it with something thats nearly the same

I thought about going 3" because my standard system was stuffed.
I ended up getting a resonator in the middle, running 2.5" mandrel bends right to the back and have a 4" resonator at the back, no mufflers. Suprisingly doesnt drone on the highway, it sounds awesome and i can notice a difference in power!
