Removal
1. Remove Radiator
2. Remove Engine Under Shield.
3. Remove Cooling Fan.
4. Remove Auxiliary Drive Belts.
5. Remove Alternator.
6. Remove Air Conditioning Compressor.
7. Remove Power Steering Pump, (without disconnecting hoses).
8. Remove Electrical and Ancillary Component Mounting Plate and Support.
9. Remove Battery and Battery Tray.
10. Remove Crank Angle Sensor.
11. Remove Crankshaft Pulley bolt and Auxiliary Drive Belt Pulley.
12. Upper and Lower timing Belt covers.
13. Turn Crankshaft Clockwise to TDC on Number 1 Cylinder.
14. Ensure all other Timing Marks are now aligned.
15. Loosen Tensioner Bolt.
16. Move Tensioner Pulley away from the Timing Belt and lightly tighten the Tensioner Bolt.
17. Remove Timing Belt.
18. Remove the Tensioner Plunger Assembly and Tensioner Pulley.
Installation
1. Inspect the Tensioner Plunger Assembly for oil leaks.
2. Replace Tensioner Plunger Assembly if necessary.
3. Extended length of the Piston Plunger should be 11.7 - 12.3 mm.
4. Fit Tensioner Assembly to a Vice or Press.
5. Depress the Piston Plunger back into the Body and fit a retaining pin, 1.4 mm in diameter.
6. Ensure the Tensioner Pulley bearings are serviceable.
7. Replace if necessary.
8. Fit Tensioner Assembly back onto engine and torque Bolts to 24 Nm.
9. Ensure all the Timing Marks are aligned.
10. Fit Timing Belt to Engine in this order: (Keeping Belt Taught between Sprockets and Pulleys)
It is suggested to use a Paper Spring Clip to retain Timing Belt in location on sprockets.
Left Bank Exhaust Camshaft.
Left Bank Inlet Camshaft.
Water Pump Pulley.
Right Bank Inlet Camshaft.
Right Bank Exhaust Camshaft.
Crankshaft Sprocket.
Tensioner Assembly.
11. If Timing Marks are mis-aligned on the Crankshaft Sprocket, turn Crankshaft Anticlockwise.
12. Loosen the Tensioner Pulley Bolt, insert the Special Tool Part Number: MD 998767.
13. Turn the Tensioner Assembly Clockwise to lightly tighten Belt.
14. Lightly Tighten the Bolt.
15. Ensure all the Timing Marks are aligned.
16. Remove the clips from the Timing Belt and Sprockets.
17. Turn Crankshaft Anti - Clockwise 90°.
18. Now turn Crankshaft Clockwise 90°.
19. Ensure all the Timing Marks are aligned.
20. Loosen Tensioner Pulley Bolt.
21. Fit the Special Tool Part Number MD 998767 and a Torque Wrench.
22. Apply a Clockwise Turning Torque of 9.4 Nm onto Timing Belt
23. Torque Tensioner Pulley Bolt.
24. Remove the 1.4 mm retaining pin from the Tensioner Plunger Assembly.
25. Turn Crankshaft Clockwise 2 turns Clockwise.
26. Leave for 5 to 10 minutes.
27. Ensure all the Timing Marks are aligned.
28. Tensioner Assembly piston Plunger extension should be 3.8 to 4.5 mm.
29. 1.4 mm retaining pin should be easily refitted into the assembly.
30. If the protrusion is not as specified then redo from Installation step 3.
31. Install Upper and Lower Timing Belt covers.
32. Install Crankshaft Pulley Bolt and Auxiliary Drive Belt Pulley.
33. Torque Crankshaft Bolt.
34. Install Crank Angle Sensor.
35. Install Battery and Battery Tray.
36. Install Electrical and Ancillary Component Mounting Plate and Support.
37. Install Power Steering Pump.
38. Install Air Conditioining Compressor.
39. Install Alternator.
40. Install Auxiliary Drive Belts.
41. Install Cooling Fan.
42. Install Engine Under Shield.
43. Install Radiator and Hoses and refill Coolant.
Tightening Torques
Crankshaft Pulley......................................... 180 to 190 Nm.
Tensioner Piston Plunger Assembly............... 24 Nm.
Tensioner Pulley Bolt.................................... 49 Nm.

Removal
