It must be something like that, rather than power or torque. The Evo 9 has a 6 speed behind 206kW...

Nay,he saying that the engine don't have the power to run in 6 gear,I say.But maybe not.:eh:

The JDM and ADM EVO 9's have the 6 speed manual, so do the JDM EVO 8's. Very much doubt one would bolt up to a Magna.

Hm.. i doubt that. The 380's dont have THAT much more power than the 3.5l. Plus, 6th gear is there for cruisin not for hard acceleration. I reckon it should be ok. Most likely won't bolt up

never say never, i just had a mate put a 3.5 v6 pajero box behind a turbo diesel triton and everyone said it cant be done - mind you he had to make a custom clutch and driveshafts and bellhousing and shaft bearing... but he did it!
its just like people said putting a magna manual into an auto is not possible - but it got done!
and since the magna awd system is based on lancer evo parts and misti has been previously known to have said awd manuals didnt come out in aus because it was fiscally not viable - not because the box didnt exist - it just wasnt worth it money wise...
id be looking at a evo 6 spd box. bellhousings arnt that hard to make.
I know mitsu aus tested an evo 5sp box in the awd magna before release. I also believe the auto evo 6's share the same box thats in the awd magna.

Doesn't sound right to me........ I would have thought that a 6 speed gearbox would have been like every other gearbox - in so much as the final gear is the "overdrive" gear, and you would assume that 5th gear would be 1:1 and all other ratios would be shorter as a result.
I'd be very surprised if 6 speed transmissions are just 5 speeds with an extra tall over drive gear added. Would kind of defeat the purpose.

i think someone should just hurry up and try it... i remember killbilly told us he spoke with Mitsu before he did his DOHC conversion on his 2nd gen.. they told him there is no way in hell it will fit... well, look how that turned out, near perfect....
i have also heard that a certain model autobox in an evo shares the same box as the awd magnas.. so there is no reason that the right evo manual box will not fit a awd magna... probably need alot of bits from a FWD manual magna aswell but that shouldnt be to hard...
andrewd seems to have to much money so id say his the man lol lol ... it would certainly boost his atw power nicely which he seems to be quite interested in atm .. andrewd come on mate, start looking for an evo box!! :)

I seem to remember that the original Rally AWD Magnas were manual.
They were then changed over to be auto to match the marketing decision to only make and sell auto AWD's.
When Ralliart was closing down in Homebush they were selling a spare Ralliart engine. Also there was a manual AWD gearbox.
I for one would be ecstatic if there was a relatively easy way to get a manual AWD.
Problem is that EVO gearboxes are like rocking horse droppings and are also very expensive!!

I think he ment to say, they developed a cou0ple manual AWD Magnas, but decided to use the autos for rally for marketing reasons.
I too rememeber someone saying htat they where selling a manaual kit or two at the time. From memory they needed custom adapter plate to bolt up.

I know some of the US guys with eclipses where upgrading their 6G72s to 6G74's from aussie built Diamante's. If any of them where 6 speed, then there is a chance they have the same bolt pattern as our 5 speeds.

Yeah they did, someone posted here recently that there is a gearbox that will fit the awd magnas and it's just a matter of a few custom fabricated parts and buckets of money and stupidity.
Gremlin is right, andrew is our man.

There are two trains of thought. Some 6 speeders have two over drive gears and some
have just one over drive gear. The ones with two OD gears are mainly in the auto version
for better economy and the one OD gears are mainly in the manual providing even closer
ratio gearing.

Jason (Jasons VRX) posted up a while ago that he drove the 6-speed manual AWD that Mitsu built as a test machine. I think there was also a 5-speed from a different evo.
Marketing decided auto only.
Custom adapter plate was required. I'm sure a search will turn up the thread. (I don't have time)

sorry guys i filled up this morning...
now im bankrupt :bowrofl:
although if the auto ****s it self and in a years time maybe i could talk to crs im sure it can be done.... a complete auto overhaul is going to cost like 4k anyway
(but i prefer auto as i built my car up to just put around in not race it.... otherwise i'd have gotten a vrx or ralliart)
To be honest i was playing with the idea of making the magna part time rwd... lol
being the same basic driveline as an evo, and there are rwd evo's out there.....
should be as simple as making up someplates to blok off stuff when the front shafts are removed... and figure something out with the ctr diff
