hey quick question, does any of you guys here have experiance with vr statesman, had a mates whose auto box just shat and he was wondering if its possible to do a manual conversion. if so, is it possible to get a donar car (not sure if vr statesman came out with manual) like a vn-vr-vs exec 5speed and transfer the parts over. thanks. its a v6 btw
feel free to move this thread to another section if its the wrong section, mods

Shouldn't be too hard to do, other then the box, and other associated parts, all you'd need is the computer from a VP-VR Manual. as the computer in there controls the motor and trans in one.

No offence, but perhaps you should try a COMMODORE club of some sort. Chances are you'll find help far easier!

Yes, but he'll get the same response as he may get from here if a new member signed up simply to ask this Q, then piss off afterwards.............
I dont know much about commodores dude, but I dont believe statesmans came in Manuals (much like our Veradas here), but in theory any Manual commodore computer/gearbox from the same model/year/engine should work just fine.

You may (but don't quote me on this) also need to change the throttle body, as I think that the 5L had the kickdown linkage on the throttle.

In this case i dont think this will need to be done, as the statesman is a v6 and the box will more likely be comin from a v6.

yes u can do it but u will need to make/change the engine bay wiring harness and the ecu or remap the auto setings out of the memcal your best bet for more accurate info is to speak to a wrecker or conversion shop that has done this a few times as for changin the throttle body no u dont need to as its all electronic (as per el,ef) they changed from manual control to electronic on vp-vr breakpoint.also u will need to source a pedal box to house the clutch and brake pedals as well as (depending on getrag or t5) all the clutch lines to suit and i think of memory modify the tailshaft!!! hope that helps!

My mate recently did a 5 speed conversion into a vr statesman. Its easily done but you have to get the correct vr/vs 5 speed gear! it has to be out of a station wagon because the length is diffirent. vr/vs statesman and station wagon tailshafts are the same but sedan is a totally diffirent length. So because statesmans didn't come 5 speed, to convert them you have to use station wagon parts lol

statesman's were built on the wagon platform, as the wagons were slightly longer, around 40mm i think, could be wrong tho. It was to give extra legroom.
