Ok,

A couple of days ago, I topped my oil up, because i had very little on my dipstick. Then I was driving it around, and all of a sudden it was blowing blue smoke (burning oil), lots of it and was losing power, and had less/little to no throttle repsonse at times. I was just around the road from home, so i drove the car home. Fortunately I have a second car (Toyota Celsior), so i was able to still go places and leave the magna at home.

I started it up today, to take it around the road to the mechanic, and looked fine, wasnt blowing any smoke, then went into drive, accelerated, and then all of a sudden, a massive cloud of white smoke appears, and acceleration is very little, combined with a bit of blue smoke, now it idles so rough, and sounds like a rotary when it runs, and still blows out ****e loads of white smoke. I am not sure as to what is wrong, and Im going to have to get it towed. Does anyone know what could be wrong?

Cheers,

Lyndon

Have a look at the water in the radiator and the oil on the dipstick.
If the water is oily (or bubbles/gushes out when you start the car) or the oil looks like coffee milk youve done a head gasket.
Thats what it sounds like to me.

Did you overfill the motor with engine oil? With low oil level on the dipstick should mean a top up of 1.5 ltrs or so.... I hope you didn't dump 4 or 5 litres in it!
If so, drain it out ASAP.

No it didnt overfill, i only put about 1 to 2 litres in, brought it back up to full. Its just blowing mass amounts of white smoke now, when it starts, and it idles so roughly now. Im thinking it could be a number of things, from head gasket and maybe a spark plug or two, hopefully nothing too bad, if it is, im just gonna replace the engine.

Is the smoke coming from the exhaust or under the hood, if just from the hood then its likely to be just oil overflowing onto the engine and burning from the heat, and yes that does create a heap of smoke, usually more blue than white. Could have spilt oil when filling, or the cap may be faulty and loose, or even you may have a detached hose somewhere, have a look under the hood, and also see if the oil level has gone down drastically.

I just had it checked out, ive cracked the head and blown the gasket, as well as dropped two spark plugs as a result. Im considering just purchasing a second hand engine as mine has done 280,000mks for a 97 model TF, with original gearbox and engine in there. And im thinking it might be better off gettin an engine with less kms on it.

will probably cost less to get another 2nd hand one in. Maybe price recond and replacing and ask a mitsu mechanic's opinions

Good opportunity to reco the gearbox while you're there. Output shaft bearing, 1st and 2nd syncros etc.
