Hey guys, i am really undecided as what to do. Well here is my situation, I have a TS V6 Manual and it needs a full respray and water pump and timing belt done. The decision is should i keep it and fix the problems or should i sell it and buy a another car?
Opinions and help greatly appreciated guys!

Looks like a mostly stock car..

You dont "need" a respray as thats just visuall, the car will still go from A to B.
Timing belt and water pump is usually a $700ish service, but you can DIY it.
If your going to keep the car more then a year, get the latter 2 done, if you plan on keeping it MANY MORE YEARS and know you will NOT sell it, then get a respray.

well you can go both ways with this situation.

1: Keep the car, respray it, new water pump and belt done. this way you will have a nice looking TS and being manual is also a bonus.

but you still have to consider the age of the car, how much everything will cost you, any other work that may need to be done to it.

2: sell the car. use that money plus extra saved to buy a newer car. remember that water pumps and timing belts need to be done on all cars, not just the TS.

if you plan to keep the TS, a respray can cost from $1500 onwards depending on paints and the shop. the belt and pump can be done by yourself for as little as $200, or if you need to take it to a mechanic you'll be looking at close to $1000 for that job.

so for roughly $2000 youll have a nice looking TS.

also you will need to consider the resale value of the TS. you will need to get the pump and belt done to get any sort of money back on it. if money is a major factor, then simply go for the cheapest option.

I was think about a 3rd gen but I dont know I have a love for my TS. My original plans where to get the engine done and then get someone to do a respray and then put 16inch AWD TJ mags on her...

well the 3rd gens are miles ahead of 2nd gen and in some instances can look as good ie watchme/slamd6 blah.

I would only tell someone to keep a 2nd gen if they dont have the money to upgrade or have a huge love for the car or want a magna to go fast, trust me with a bit of work and on top of the right engine they can go fast.

You have already got some good advice - I own both a TJ and a TS and well they are so different but both great in different ways - I only got the TS as a run about though and my main focus for power etc is the TJ - the TS can look good with exhaust done and lowered mags and tint as I have done but for me it stands no where near the TJ

Depends on what you want if it is poer then go the TJ upgrade if it is looks then stick with the TS and spend your cash on doing it up a bit like you want

Listen to what you really want not what you think you should do - if you rationalise it too much then it will bcome a hard choice and with a car it should never be a hard choice it should be instinct on what is right for you

Or you can always be crazy like me and have both!

...I say keep the 2ndGen.... Personally i think they are a sexy looking car and have a lot of potential as rice mentioned with the DOHC... keep the money and do up the car you've got!

Cheers,
Adz

if and when i sell the skyline, i should have enough cash to get a respray and get waterpump and timing belt done and maybe AWD rims
