Hey guys, I just bought some fusion 15" subs and splits, and i need a mono and amp for them, wanna keep with the fusion theme.
the subs are 600RMS according to fusioncaraudio.com's tech specs at 4 ohms and theres two of them, does that mean i need a mono that can handle 1200RMS at 4 ohms or what? what else decides it? Yeh im kinda stupid when it comes to amps and stuff.
Thanks guys

Check out this site -> http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/rftech/woofer_wizard.asp

Assuming you had two single voice coil (SVC) 4ohm amps, you could wire them up for a 2ohm load.

Having an amp deliver 1200w is a pretty hard measure. For example, the Jaycar 1500w monoblock (http://tinyurl.com/2wz9ml) is pretty cheap for a such a powerful amp, yet it RRPs for $700, and is 1000w RMS @ 2ohm (I think Jaycar may over-estimate the power on that amp, I could be wrong tho)

You'll either have to settle for under-powering the subs (not necessarily a bad thing), or maybe you'd rather a separate monoblock for each sub.

Or you could do what I'd probably do, and just go for a single more expensive sub, and a single high-quality amp :)

just checked the site and it appears that the max power is 600w and normal wrms is 300w unless you brought the 1100wrms model... unlikley....

a jaycar $300 mono would run it fine..

im running 4 250wrms subs @ 1 ohm no problems

RMS Power: 500W

Best to get the Jaycar 1500W mono, 800W @ 4Ohmz, and split it to each sub, give them 400W each

or maybe 2 of these (http://www.fusioncaraudio.com/products.php?region=1&action=view&product_id=290), one for each sub? keeping in theme...:doubt:

try and get a mono block that has RMS about 1500 if you cant than mayb u will have to get two mono blocks that are 700RMS cos the more RMS the amp/mono has the more power ur gonna get out of the sub and its better to have a bit more rms on the amp than the subs cos than you will get full purtentrol sorry i cant spell

umm dont give a 500W RMS or 600W RMS sub 750W of power...thats just stupidly overpowering, not to mention more expensive :gtfo:

There's nothing stupid about that at all.

Using an amp that has the potential for 750w rms would be a good thing. It would allow you to turn the gains on the amp down so it wasn't running at full power. This gives it more control and the amps wont heat up as much either.

It is better to buy a more powerfull amp as underpowering a sub can cause clipping ultimately shortening the life of not only the sub, but the amp as well as you'd be running it at max to try and keep up with the sub.

I don't think I understood a single word you said... and you mentioned petrol there I think

A Response/Jaycar amp of the 1000w variety will suit your needs fine for now, don't forget you can always upgrade later.

It's better but not always neccessary. Even if you have a mono that only puts out 400wrms to a 500wrms sub, using gain control will ensure you won't get any clipping, you just won't get as much out of the sub and the amp will be working harder (but not to the point where it's lifespan will be shortened, if it's designed to run at 400wrms it's not going to be overloaded at this power level, but may overheat quicker if its a cheapish amp). You could even reverse the argument and say that running a sub at 400wrms instead of 500wrms will give the sub longer life as it's not pushing it's limits constantly ;).

To the OP, i would go the jaycar mono, best bang for your buck and will run your subs fine :).
