I've got a 99 Diamante 30R SE from Japan to NZ, and it has in it's stereo console with touch screen lcd for air con, radio, navigation and TAPE DECK all in one unit. The nav system runs off a cd-rom reader in the boot, which I thought was a CD stacker, but no.

I was wondering if there is a compatible CD playing factory unit that would keep the air con working (as a a/m h/u would negate me being able to use air con I believe)? Or is there a factory CD stacker for the boot that would match up to my unit?

Can post images if that will help...

i think it might be like the galant as well, which unfortunately some models come with the touch screen that controls the air con...but noones been able to translate the menus to english!

ur best bet will be some way of an external cd stacker, and as said try any VR4 sites (club vr4 mite be a start) as these guys *should* be able to give u a hand, if any of them have had that problem

but yeah, best to check NZ/UK Galant VR4/Legnum/Diamante sites, might find wat ur lookin for (UK sites because they grey import the jap cars too)

good luck :)

Ok cool thanks, kinda haven't been getting anywhere so far so thought I'd try my luck here.

Guess I was hoping that the magnas/veradas etc may have had similar issues that you guys had found ways round using a cd unit from from one in another.

Kind of looking for an answer before I make one up lol.

Here it is for anyone wondering. Will post results if and when there are any...

MMCS English Charactor Conversion
No bids | Closed: 11:00 am, Sun 6 May 2007

This auction closed and did not meet the reserve price.
Interested in buying? Ask the seller to relist or offer at a fixed price

This auction is for Mitsubishi Galant or Legnum having a factory GPS Navigation System (MMCS ) intalled.

I have converted 90% japanese words to english in the normal operating menus like A/C,Tape, Radio, GPS_control and Sound . A hidden self-diagnose mode is also translated.

CD and TV menus have been done as well but not tested , because my car doesn't have this two things.

I can also help you to change the factory logo to your personlised picture in limited colors and size.

The update to your car is very easy, only needs a disk I provided and wrenches, no wirework.

Finally and unfortunately, this converstion is only to the jap characters, not the jap gps map.

Please check your car for the lcd size prior to bidding . This conversion is only supported to the galant or legnum having the same lcd size (16:9) as the picture shown.

If you have 96,97 model's Galant or Legnum having 4:3 LCD and very interested in this conversion, please contact me at fpga4ever@gmail.com

interesting with the jap conversion!

best thing with the cd rom thing (is it reading any data from the cd inside) is to post a pic of the connection between ur headunit and the stacker thingo in the boot, so can see if the connection can b used for other things :)

True, can do. Yep the drive was reading the navigation discs, but they are in bloody Japanese and are of Japan, so twice as useless to me. Will try get pics up over weekend.

Asked that guy if my D could be done he said no, but asked for copies of discs to have a go at anyway out of curiosity, and I'll send some cos hell if it works...

This guy (http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/member.php?u=144) imported a Japanese Diamante quite a while back and I'm fairly sure it came with the CD version of the unit you've got (see this thread (http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10280)). Unfortunately all the links in the thread to photos don't exist any more.. and he's not on the forums very often these days either. You could try emailing.

Im surprised no ones sujested it yet...

Get an FM MODULATED stacker. it will work with any radio that can pick up FM. If you dont have radio atm get an FM expander and the factory deck will pick up all your freq.
