Make sure all your filters and injectors are clean/replaced, check your spark plugs and leads, make sure everything is still connected, do a compression test make sure everything grounded well. I am sure people can come up with more to check.

Heaps of information on this if you do a advanced search of the forums, the fuel efficeny issue for 2nd gens is a common problem, and the amount of K's varies from 200 - 550K's.

Suggestions:
Injectors
02 Sensor
Fuel filter
Upgrade Air filter and make sure its cleaned
Tyre pressure
Reduce non-essential items in vehicle (weight)
A upgraded ignition system, dizzy cap, better plugs, better leads
Clean Fuel rail, barry's kit
TPS, might not be clicking correctly, might be dirty
Throttle body clean
Cylinder compression test
I've also been told a dud thermostat would increase usage (myth or fact?)

If you were to start doing those things, start with free and easy things first, slowly increase... Its very hard to diagnose it to one simple problem.

A cold engine will increase usage as more fuel will fall out of suspension and coat the wall wasting fuel. Then when overheating the fuel will increase to try to cool the engine to safe levels so there is an ideal engine temperature.

I have a VP Commodore as a second car and it had much the same problem 230km around town. Changed the O2 sensor and now get about 380km around town. My around town driving is about 5min at a time. The life expectancy of O2 sensors apparently vary, about 50,000Km for 1 & 2 wire types and 100,000Km for 4 wire types. Cheers.
