first of all, im looking at sound deadening from jaycar. in the catalogue it has the bitumen sound deadening for $24.95 which is apparently enough material to sound deaden a single door. so im assuming ill need at least 3 of these as i need to do front doors and the boot. would it make any sense to sound deaden the inside panels of the doors as well as the outside panels? and cover up the service holes as well?

also i have a problem where the supports which run across the underside of the boot have come unstuck from the actual boot panel so even when i was running the 6x9s off the amp there was a slight rattle, now with the sub its much worse. would the sound deadening alone fix this? or do i need to glue the supports onto the bootlid panel first before i put the sound deadening on? do i also need to deaden the side quarter panels in the boot under the carpet?

at the moment im running fairly average and in my opinion thin dual core wires to the speakers and to the sub from the amp. if i was to rewire the entire system with thicker wire would it make a difference to the loudness/quality of sound?

one of the amps is currently being run by pretty thin power wire from the battery (im talking kinda between 8 and 12 guage). this is running my front speakers and the amp isnt very big at all, its only rated at 50WRMSx2. havent had a problem with this yet but would it make a difference to rewire to 4guage power?

the front speakers are currently mounted on the trim in the tr. its pretty strong but would it make any difference in quality of sound to screw in spacers behind them and mount it directly onto the inner metal panels somehow? and how would you do it? as you guys may be aware the hole in the inner panel isnt round so i may have slight difficulty mounting the spacers onto it. would it sound much better if i was to use the speaker pods from a verada or equivalent? and if so i can just screw the pods straight on without having to replace the doorskins, correct? and if thats the case, whats the average price that id be looking at paying for a couple of them (obviously left and right)?

thanks heaps

Alex

I used this sound deadner from jaycar, and 12 months later when i took the doortrim off, most of it was beginning to peel, i would get dynamat if i had my time again mate, i used 3 rolls for 2 doors, so it worked out to be about $75ish.

With the holes in the door, cover them up with duct tape, then place some thin MDF there, then cover it again in duct tape, and apply the sound deadening on top of that.

Then again If your running them off a HU i wouldnt worry.

For the bootlid seal it up with flexible water resistant silicone, then use paint on sound deadner, its much cheaper in the long run, it'll just smell out your boot for a week, then get a boot lining from the wreckers to cover it up, bootlid rattle should be fixed!

The power wire running to your amp is sufficient, if i can remeber a small 2 channel amp will have a 20-30A fuse, and it'll take over 80+A to start to cause some damage to 4ga (could be more im going off old info in my head) so with the power wire u have now it'll be fine mate.

I would rewire all the speakers, its just something i'd do, dont know why i just dont like the look of that skinny strandy stock speaker wiring

With the door pods, Make up an MDF cover to sit behind the speaker, but to cover all the holes in your door left over from the map pocket, it'l be simple, and neat, best of all cheap.

map pockets are about $20 a pair or around that

thanks for the reply Paul, just to clarify some things about the previous post

the current power wire is a lot smaller than 4ga, its only about 12ga and its the only wire i had at the time of installation. i was just wondering if i should be running 4ga instead of the 12ga thats in there at the moment? its only a 50WRMS x 2 amp

i dont mind them being the way they are as i cant see it. would it make any difference to the sound though if i was to rewire them?

i was thinking of that too, but i was wondering if a spacer between the inner metal panel in the door and the doorskin (trim) would make any difference as the speakers would then be mounted directly onto the metal panels which are less prone to vibration and are a lot stronger.

when you say that map pockets are about $20 a pair do you mean the pockets with the speakers mounting pods from the KS verada? how difficult is it to mount these things onto the standard tr exec doorskins?

thanks
