the 10 on drive train was only for original owner wasnt it?
so 5 all round if ur 2nd owner.

u can always ring mitsu and ask them for the warranty expiry date for ur particular car.

If I remember correctly, the 5/10 warranty only applied to cars delivered to their first owner on or after 1st January 2005, so that means there may be a small number of 2004 TW Magnas that were registered before the end of '04. These cars would only have the 3 year/100,000km warranty.

Similarly, TL's that are 2004 built and 2005 registered have the 5/10 warranty.

Doesn't matter anyway because if you end up with a problem thats a little bit hard to fix Mitsu eventually gives up and then tells you that the problem is normal with that model. Thats providing you can actually get them to acknowledge that there is a problem in the first place. Mitsu service people have incredibly selective hearing.

"Better built, Better backed", yeah right.

Never had a problem with their warranties before...because I've never had to use them. We have two TS's with over 250 k kms.............not a single claim.
I think maybe people treat their cars like ****, then whinge when the manufacturer won't fix it.......

Regards, Andrew.

Not everyone treats their cars like ***** though. I had a TR wagon which I got after my Dad passed away. He had bought it new. Had 63000klm on it when he died. Had never had a problem with it. I drove it for another 50,000 odd k's with the same reliability. It was on the strength of this that I decided to buy a new TL Awd. Nice car to drive when I took it for a test drive. very quite. After about 2 days I noticed a slight clunk in the left hand front suspension. Reported it at the 1500 k service. No one at Mitsubishi could hear it though. The noise got progressively louder intill after complaining for some time Mitsu service finally agreed that there was a bit of a noise and that the driverside strut was leaking. They subsequently changed both front struts, (after waiting about 6 weeks for a new driver side one to arrive) but the noise was still there. they then change the strut top plates, again with out fixing the noise. I will add here that both times they had the stuts out they didn't do an alignment on it and it started to scrub the tyres in a couple of days. Then I had to arrange to have the car taken back so they could fix the alignment. ( I no longer use this service centre).
Next they changed the sway bar links again without fixing the problem. When ever the front end of the car is played with, the noises go quiet for a couple of days and then slowly come back. After all this they gave up and said the noise was inherent in the car because of the "sports tuned suspension on the Awd" (its only the base model) During all this I also complained about the Triptronic tranny changing roughly. the response I got was "we put it on the diagnostic machine and its ok" " Its a learning transmission and it learns your driving style" Well, after 65000klm it still hasn't learned my driving style. Its still can't decide what gear to use when I slow down to around 10 -20 k and then drive off again,
I am using a different service centre now and they are a lot better. Still have problems with the clunks and rattles though. They recently replaced the steering column which took away a lot of the small rattles but the original one is still there. I have also fitted new springs and struts myself and still the clunk remains. I'm starting to think its related to the sway bar. I disconnected the sway bar links last weekend and drove it around a bit. Could still hear some faint noises but I could live with them. As soon as I hooked the sway bar back up the clunk is back. Might be a case of the noise being generated in the suspension and the sway bar mounts are transmitting it into the body and making it louder. I'm thinking about fitting new sway bar bushes to see if that makes a change.

If it wasn't for the clunks and rattles i would be happy enough with the car. As far as service goes, these blokes treat you like you are an idiot who couldn't possibly know what you are talking about. That pisses me right off.

So, my TL might be "bad day" car but theres no way I will ever give Mitsubishi more of my money to see if they have improved.

I had the same problem with suspension clunks on sharp ruts. I was told that the vrawd front springs at the bottom where the coil starts are very close together and when you hit a sharp rut the spring compresses quickly and knocks together making a "clunk". The dealer wrapped some heavy duty rubber tape stuff around the very bottom coils of the front springs and the clunk has gone.

Give that a try.

but then its not mitsubishi, its the service centres, and unfortunately thats wat ur stuck with wen ur under warranty... if u didnt have such a long warranty, u could take the car elsewhere, but instead u have to go to their service centres and have apprentices deal with ur car.

reason why wen i bought mine 2ndhand from a dealership, i didnt opt for a $1500 3yr warranty *touch wood nothing goes wrong* but for $1500 i could practically replace the motor if something happened lol and tj/kj series is pretty reliable and strongly built.

was ur awd one of the first? or probably just bad luck?

I have had my 2004 VR AWD for 2 years. (It was an Ex Police vehicle, 1 year old with 40,000K, bought at Fowles Govt auction for $16,500)
It now has 70,000k and hasn't been back for any warranty work, apart from the tape stuff put on the front springs.
Like all makes and models some are good some not so.
