i have a TR magna just so u know

Just last night one of the power steering pipes started to leak and pour out all of my power steering fluid.. if u have a TR theres 2 ruber hoses just below the power steering fluid container thingo. Its the lower one of those.

Anyway, i was in the middle of the road when this happend so i continued to drive home and found the problem. all this time there was little to no power assisted driving at all.. akong with alot of painful noises from the steering wheel.

I removed the split pipe and all the remaining fluid poured out. and i drove the car a little just to park.
does any of this do annyy damage to the car in any way? I know nothing about power steering and how it works and so onnn.. so i need someone with some brains and can be bothered explaining if i can simply replace the pipe and if theres any other precautions i shoud take.

And also with the fluid, is there a special kind i should replace it with, i only looked at the servo and the only had ones for fords and gm.

pleeeaassee whoever can give me any help post a reply!!
Thanks

perhaps you should bring it to a mechanic, and get it checked as to how it started linking.

good luck. sorry i'm not very helpful but mechanic would be my first advice if you want to check for damage.

The power steering pump is seperate from the engine. You wont have done any damage to the engine.

My advice is to replace it, if it blows again then you are prolly getting built up pressure, but your car is gettin on in the years, so i wouldnt jump off the deep end just yet. If the power steering pump makes an excessive amount of noise after you replace the hose and fill it with fluid, you may have damaged the pump itself.

As for fluid, im not sure, but i got this castrol fluid stuff, it seems to be much much of a muchness.

Also if your gonna repair it yourself you may need to bleed teh system, im not 100% sure if you need to tho, this is done by turning the engine over with the starter motor only and turn the wheels left to right slowly to get rid of any air :D

Happy repairing

Do not need to bleed it but you may have damaged the pump, it is located on the front bottom of the motor. (4cyl?)

The hose probably blew simply to age, lethal is yet to replace his as it also leaks, the rubber goes hard.

for the power steering fluid, can't go wrong with castrol. castrol provides mitsu with almost all, if not all their lubrication needs *raised eyebrows*

Power steering fluid = Dexron III or Dexron II AT Fluid.
If you don't believe me, or have any doubts, check your owners manual.
I'm 99.9% sure it is correct.

this happened to us once with the tr either replace the hose or cut it below the leak and replace it(as long as its low pressure hose)

should work forever after that certainly did on ours.

shouldnt do much damage if you didnt drive it for weeks. tho you may be unlucky , like i said replace the hose lube it then your off. you will probably have to drive the block to get the lub going properly thru again. if it doesnt work after a block or so off to the mechanics you go :)
