I have a set of rockford fosgate 6x9 speakers in the front doors of my car.. i am now looking to see if i can put some in the back doors.. knowing that i will have to cut a hole out i just want to know if its a good idea or not? im really into the audio side of things and i need my car sounding good.. it's just that when your sitting in the back seat the sound comes from behind you with my set of pioneer 6x9's.. i want the surround sound effect.. and ides would be handy thanks

Heh, my sentiments exactly.
Seems like a waste of time to me... If you're that concerned just get a set of three-way splits and have them angled toward the rear passengers ears from the parcel shelf.
Cutting door metal is baaaaaaaaaad mmkay.

I rarely sit in the back.. i have just been thinking about it thats all. and i dont really want to cut a hole in my door.
I just want more speakers inside the car. where else can i put them?

Redesign your parcel shelf. Add more places to put speakers.

This is now reminding me of that thread where that guy wanted to put as many speakers as he could in the back of his wagon... Aim for quality over quanitity mate. Stimulate can help you out with this I'm sure.

IMO if you want your car sounding good, take out the 6x9's in the front and get a decent set of 6.5" splits or even a 3-way setup (6.5", 4", 1") and a good quality amp to power themp up. Get a good quality sub and an amp to suit also. Leave the rear 6x9's running off the HU for rear fill.
6x9's will never sound as good as a decent split system.

Yeah unless you have an actual 5.1 type arrangement there is no 'surround sound' achieved by adding more rear speakers its more surround noise.
Surround sound systems are based on having an individual channel for each speaker. For stereo music it really does not add anything to the quality of your listening experience (apart from more volume, but if you have good quality gear and prep it should be able to get that loud anyway) What it takes away from your listening experience is the sense of reality that a good quality stereo system (home or car) can produce. This is the other dimension that most people forget. (image: width, height, depth, focus etc). All of these will be affected by having speakers behind the listener.
What Im getting at is; as the main listener you sit in the front, I'd say your back seats might get used 10% of the time and even then no one expects a car to image brilliantly from the back seat. If you are going for a show car then by all means put some blingy woofers in nice pods in the back doors, if you want good sound, put it up front where you will hear it, and focus on quality over quantity, some of the best systems have 2 tweets, 2 mids and a sub. Simple and effective and you can put more money into fewer speakers.

how bout u line the entire roof with tweeters...and and and instead of a backseat, have an MTX jackhammer.... and and and forget the passenger seat, have another jackhammer....thats right, u heard me, 2 jackhammers in ur car! fully sick yo! and do u like tennis? well then just push the button and out comes a full size tennis court, complete with anna kournikova...out of ur car man! [/pimp my ride]
seriously, as stated, quality over quantity will get u alot better... 10xpioneer $50 speakers /= 1x $500 Morel splits... simple logic

what s_tim_ulate said. spend some money on decent splits. aim $300-$500.. it can never cost too much, and theres no such thing as a limit in car audio. look out for brands such as focal, boston, DD, morel, etc. with a decent amped setup and a good sub in the boot running off a mid-high powered mono the system will be hell of a lot better than going 6x9s all the way. youll never get quality sound out of 6x9s and your bass is being supplied by the sub so you dont need bass from speakers. look around, do a bit of research, listen to some 6.5" splits. itll be the best thing youd do for your audio
