If anyone has removed auto transmission, your help will be appreciated.
The car is a TS V6 auto.
I assume the transmission comes out with the differential (once drive shafts etc have been removed) Is this correct?
I assume the box drops downwards.
If my above assumptions are correct, is it best to place the car on ramps?
How heavy is the transmission?....can one person/ 2 people handle it?

Any special tips you can provide.
When re-installing, do things line up easily?

Thanks in advance for any info.

transaxle ie diff inside.

I could quite easily lift a manual tranny by myself dunno about an auto though, i could barely lift a gto awd auto off the ground.

yeah unless pulling engine out drop gearbox down

Pretty sure the auto is at least 15kg's heavier. i would say if its on stands lower it with a jack. (the tranny that is so it doesnt fall)

I've been through this experience once before, on a 92' KR Verada. Although we did lift the whole lot out (engine and box), it's a pretty straightforward operation to leave the engine in.

With regards to putting the car on ramps, you'll need to remove the driveshafts, which require the wheels to be removed. It's also easier to reach the crankshaft pulley to turn the motor over by hand if the wheels are off. I'd suggest a set of stands; that'll give you the best clearance underneath.

The transaxle is secured to the motor via a number of bolts (I think it's 8). The torque convertor is bolted to the flywheel through 4 bolts. There's a thin steel cover that will need to be removed before you can access the torque convertor. Once that's off, unbolt the convertor and push it into the bellhousing; you don't want it to fall out.

I've heard that sitting the transmission on a jack is the way to get it in and out. If you put a block of timber under the transmission pan, that'll give you enough cushioning and support for the transaxle.

The transaxle is HEAVY. I'd say 80kg; it took 2 of us to move it, and that was barely lifting it off the ground.

I assume the box drops downwards. It can with some "wangling" but far easier to get an engine hoist for a weekend and lift out with motor
If my above assumptions are correct, is it best to place the car on ramps? No can do, whe lower joints have to be broken to get the drive shafts out, need hoist or at very least good stands, thus lift motor out and no hassle with weight, clearance, getting the bugger out and then more importantly back in again
How heavy is the transmission?....can one person/ 2 people handle it? As above, at least 2 or a transmission jack

Any special tips you can provide.Get it done if you do not know what you are doing, as above take motor out as well, takes not much longer
When re-installing, do things line up easily? The trick is not getting things done up the trick is getting the heavy mother back in again

Thanks in advance for any info.
