I have a 1994 TS V6 Auto and I'm looking to increase mileage

Is there a how-to for modifying a 2nd gen air box and adding CAI with pic's ?

I have had a bit of a search for info and found some on 3rd gen magna's but none on 2nd gen

What parts do I need
- K&N panel filter
- CAI intake tube

After adding K&N panel filter and CAI tube do I have to
- change the fuel rail or can I use the standard one ?
- reset the computer ?

I also plan on fitting a high flow cat in the future as I have read that can increase mileage with the mods above

Any and all help appreciated :)

im assuming you mean power rather than milleage??

AFAIK

you need to cut a hole out of your standard airbox on the intake side and run the pipe to wherever you are getting your cold air from and then chuck the filter in an away you go

you wont need the fuel rail as the gains arent that big (i think the rails are for 3rd gens anyway)

your ECU should learn the new airflows and retune itself...

i heard the 2nd gens sound wicked with a pod filter but double their fuel economy.

anyone had any experiences wth this ?

I have had a 4" pod filter on for ages and i use average 20L per 100k, but it sounds good!!!

LOL...doesnt change fuel usuage at all, its more your foot.

IMO, if i had my time again, i would of left the stock filter in, stock exhaust, and just had the resonators taken out from the intake tube....Never heard a v6 magna sound like a V8 before....That was a nice sound, specially for $4. good mod.

If your gonna use a pod, and keep legal, get a pod, and a shroud, and run a CAi pipe to the shround. I just installed my 6" pod tonight so hopefully it will be hooked up to some pipe shortly.

if you wanna keep the standard box no need to modify it, just tape the tube to the air intake pipe thats there already (take the one that points to the bonnet off, it'll leave you with an L shape intake which you can use)

any Q's ask

No.

The fuel rail stays stock on your car. The only thing that differs is the mounts, which are originally plastic, are replaced with metal mounts to improve heat conduction. The fuel rail mount mod (by Barry) is for all magnas, the amount of mounts differ depending on amount of cylinders, 4's have 2 and 6's have 4.

If you want to run a CAI to your stock second gen airbox, you'll have to rotate your battery 90 degrees and move your washer bottle because there's no way you'll run any decent piping to the box if you want to keep things the way they are. That is of course unless you don't want a hood scoop.

As for pods, they are awesome sauce, sound good, look good. I noticed no increase or decrease in fuel economy, as a general rule the econ sucks for a second gen anyway, so who cares honestly, its not like you can tell accurately anyway lol

YOU ONLY GET 300K's PER TANK?!?!

I have an oval K&N pod and i get the same milage which for me is about 400+ per tank of almost pure city driving with one trip up the highway and back per week.

I hope that was sarcastic:P

wow! I didn't think it was possible to have such poor fuel economy! I hope you're just being sarcastic!

Even my old first gen - the fuel drinking king doesn't use *that* much. :bowrofl: Considering the timing chain is so slack the timing is leaving the valves open for way too long eating fuel like no tomorrow! I thought the second gens were meant to have improved economy over the first! =S

Same engine, heavier car.

I thought mine was bad aswell. :doubt:

a 2nd gen should get around the 10L/100k's mark, mine still does and did before hand.

...i used the original piping and got some flexi pipe took the existing flow pipes out and moved the battery to the side, put a hole into the existing gap in the chasis and dropped the pod infront of the left side space in my front bar, noise is great mad induction noise a little increased power but nothing special still runs on about 10L/100ks. The fuel lean out kit will improve the existing gains slightly but a tune is a good way to boost it up a little...

Cheers,
Adz
