Hello all,
Anybody replaced the rear roll stopper/engine mount? Haynes manual says to do from under the car, factory manual just says to unbolt (maybe they had the engine out!)
From under the car, well, I don't have a trained octopus to get to the bolts.
Looks like it will have to be from the top, remove plenum, fuel rail, inlet manifold and other sundry bits to get to it. At least if I remove all the above I will be able to replace the thermostat, outlet from the fuel rail covers the rear bolt so unable to get a spanner in there.
Anyone got any ideas?????
Car is a TR Elite, 2.6 efi.
Thanks in advance

I fed a bunch of extension bars for my socket wrench down thru the inlet manifold for the ones I couldnt reach from underneath.

Taking off the inlet plenum lets you get at them as well. Undo the clips, unplug the plug on the side (dont forget to put it back later), pull of the vauum hose to the rocker cover at whichever end is easier, undo the clamp on the throttle body and off it comes.

Best this job is done on ramps or car stands, if you dont have em make sure you put an old rim or something under each front wheel in case she comes off the jack.

Its a fiddly job, but not terribly hard :D

Those mounts are the most fun of them all to replace! I've had to replace that mount numerous times on mine.

There is a bit of a trick, although it's still not all that easy.

1) Put the car on ramps or stands, and using a jack and a piece of wood, support the engine itself
2) Using a large wrench or breaker bar, remove the 2 bolts that hold the U-bracket that joins the mount to the engine.
3) Loosen the through bolt that goes through the middle of the mount, and using a 14mm spanner, remove the 3 bolts that hold the mount onto the crossmember. You may need to reach from the top to get at some of the bolts.
4) Maneuver the mount out from behind the engine.

You will need a fair bit of effort to remove the large bolts going into the engine, as they tend to seize in place a little. I'm not sure whether it's the same for the second gen, but I imagine it would be similar to that of the first gen removing that mount.

Good luck! :D

Thanks for the help & advice, hopefully I'll get a chance to do the job tomorrow, otherwise it will have to wait until next week.
Best regards

Anyone know how much it costs for a mechanic to do this? Because my rear mount needs replacing and I dont have the time or patience to do it myself at the moment.
