I can see where a thin coating on my TL headlight lens is starting to flake off. Does anyone know what the thin coating is for? Is it to protect the lens from UV radiation?
Even though it is a warranty issue, I'm reluctant to have the dealer muck around with removing the assembly and having another one colour coded to match. So, if the coating isn't important, I'll probably live with it.

My guess is a lense protector? You can get films that adhere to your lenses which are supposed to greatly reduce the risk of stone chips etc. But this sounds like it came like it from factory, so don't know if they ever brought in factory protectors?
Too expensive for most people to bother adding aftermarket, but then again it's tempting when you have parras. Costly suckers to replace. I'd imagine TL lenses would be even more expensive.

Thats a defect.
Take it back and get it replaced under warranty.
I used to work for the company that made the lights. The thin coating is a hardener to protect the plastic lens.

Thanks for the replies. The flaking is happening at the very top corner of the lights, well away from where light is emitted. I'll have to chase it up with the dealer then.
