Hi all, quick query about wheel balancing.

Say if I wanted to get my prospective rims powdercoated, I'd have to have that done with the tyres off the rim itself, so my question is does the balancing of the wheel only apply to the rim, or is it both rim and tyre? My reasons are that I don't want those ugly clip on weights ruining my rim's appearance and powdercoat.

Cheers!

no choice there

tyres have to come off and ........rims cannot be balanced on thier own

the weights should be fitted to the inside edge of the rims not the outside with mags

powdercoating is nice

hope the tyre fitter doesnt damage the coat when the tyres go back on

Rims can be balanced by them selves, but the tyres are need to be balanced to the rims anyway

Dont they use some sort of epoxy to glue the weights to the inside of the rim. Thats what theyve done on mine, can hardly see them unless your looking for them.

dont know when in what year this rim balancing became possible after manufactre

if the weights are put on the rim
they may have to be removed to balance the tyre correctly

only rims i have seen balanced is truck tyres with welded metal plates at manufacture

please explian ?

Heh, thanks for your input guys, I thought the weights having to have the tyre on top would be the case.

Perhaps I can spraypaint the weights when I get it done lol

Like Parker said, just have them "mag wheel" balanced. With this type of balance, the weights aren't hammered onto the outside lip of the rim, but glued on flush to the inside of the rim, sorta "opposite the tread face".

Can rarely be seen, once bolted onto the vehicle ;-)

Cheers,
Mattt.
