View Full Version : rotors, pads?
Hey guys,
I bought a set of rotors last week, won't have time to fit them till mid-next week, so i'm just wondering - do i have to put new pads on as well? I changed them less than 6 months ago, they'd still have heaps of meat on them. What happens if i change rotors and keep the same pads?
Any info would be nice, cheers.
p.s. have searched this, havent specifically found info on it..just a bit here and there.

change the front rotors
use the pads you have .... bed them in again
you will have to open the caliper wider so the caliper and pads go over the new rotor
dont forget to retighten the cv outer nut

I've heard that it's a good idea to keep the old pads on when replacing the disks as new pads have the protective film on them. Not too sure how much truth there is in that, but it does make a bit of sense to me.If it were me I'd just use the current ones if I were you.

And then throw the new rotors out as they will glaze and any grooves in the pads will damage the rotors.
just spend the 40 odd bucks for a set of Protek or Bendix and look after the investment you have made in the new rotors
Be sure you clean the mating surface on the hub and also torque your wheel nuts properly to ensure long shudder free driving

i got front and rear rotors, they're both buggered.
Ill get pads next week as well - how do i tighten the cv outer nut and whats a mating service on a hub?
I checked the repair manual and it seems straight forward but mentions nothing of these.

You do not need to undo the cy nut, the rotors come straight off once you have removed the wheel and the caliper bracket.
One suggestion, if you do not know what you are doing with brakes, get them done as you do not get a second chance with brakes.
You also need to clean and lubricate the sliding pins, appy anti squeal etc.
If in Vic, you supply parts, I will fit for 50 bucks all up
i'll be right, i've done pads before.
Cheers for the advice, ill get on it next week.
