Good day all,

My TN wagon is in need of a new lease of life. The head has a couple of worn valves due to neglected dirty injectors (apparently the rocker breather tube puts a lot of muck into the EFI system). I can either rebuild,or replace head and block. My question is what model engine and or head would be suitable in the TN engine bay with a manual gearbox?

Thanks in advance for any leads!

Use the EFI system you have, in my experience the EFI in the first gen is better than the second gen.

I am not too sure how you will go about putting a TR/S head on a first gen block, I plan to do it but you need to realise that doing so will increase the compression ratio as the TM-P have flat top pistons and the TR/S have smaller combustion chambers in the head but use dished pistons. I know that my Elante running a stock second gen engine with a 9.2:1 compression ratio pings when running on standard unleaded, so I just run premium in it. If you were to increase the compression more (I want to go to around 10.0:1 using flat tops, second gen shaved head and strengthend bottom end) the problem would be worse.

Is it worth putting a second gen engine in the first gen - hell yeah, you will notice a slight difference between it and the original engine.
