When I lived in Perth a few years ago there was a garage / petrol station that would convert your car to LPG and you paid a few cents more per litre when filling the tank to pay for the conversion

Does anyone know of a similar place in Sydney

i was under the impression that the government rebate on LPG gas conversion was nation wide?

Sounds to me like they convert your car then you pay it off bit by bit everytime you fill up your car? Might take a while to pay it off though like that though...? Don't think you'd find anything like that in Sydney... or anywhere for that matter...

And yes the $2000 grant is nationwide. Good luck finding a conversion supplied and installed for that price though, it'd be more like $2500 - $3000 for a mixer setup, $4000+ for injected.

um? I'd be pretty happy getting my LPG installed for 500-1000 dollars hahahaha.
But yeah, to pay off a full injected conversion, which as Citizen Insane has suggested can cost up to 4 grand, lets see...
Typical price of gas between 45-50 cents true?
Say you pay 60 cents a litre...
Typical magna fuel tank TR series...about 54 litres
That's $5.40 a full tank...it'll take 740 weeks to pay it off. That's 14.2 years. That's longer than your car will work!!!!!!

i've just forked out for a 3.5 TH so will probably start guzzling more fuel than my TP.

I'd really like to consider converting to lpg, is there anything i should know about the conversion and what differences it will make to the performance of the car?

The fuel consumption would be about on par with ur TP when you consider many factors, if you go to the 3rd gen lounge you'll find out more info there

Yes that is what I meant and it was about 8yrs ago when I heard of the petrol station in Perth doing it

$4k for injected is way out of my price range

It's probably been asked before, but are there any LPG converters in Sydney that will claim the $2k rebate for the conversion direct from the govt and only charge you the extra $500+

wont work out too that much...work out ur average economy now, work out per week what its costing u, multiple by maybe 3-5yrs (the time u will have the car for) and if that is cheaper than the cost of an lpg install, plus lpg costs, then dont worry about it imo. save the boot space and just live with 1 or 2L/100k's extra, it really wont hit u that badly

I got the 2.6 TR Pookmobile converted last month, cost $2750.

Payed up front , put in a form too medicare, and got $2000 back 2 weeks later.

Car runs perfectly, gets 10 Kpl on pet and 9 Kpl on gas.

Pet $1.20L Gas 63c L you do the math, its cheap to run

Power is about the same :)

4K is a lot but if you own a company it would be a good investment

did you read? There's a $2000 government rebate. Get your parents or someone else to finance 2k of it, and it wouldn't cost you too much.

Ahhh i see what you mean. That's the downside about the government grant, it's in the form of a rebate so you have to front the cost of the conversion yourself first and then get the rebate.

Check out the application form here:

http://www.ausindustry.gov.au/library/LPG_application_form_Jan07_Revised__V2200704230347 55.pdf

Unfortunately you have to provide proof of payment with the application form, so I don't see how you could circumvent that unless you were on reeeaaaal good terms with the installer...

OK this might seem a little controversial to some, but I dunnoh about LPG conversions... from what I've heard from blowing up AFM's/airboxes to faulty isolation valves, all I really hear is bad news from LPG. I personally don't run any cars with gas as I just plain don't like the fact of driving around with a tank of compressed gas in the car, and I don't like losing all the boot space with an ugly grey cylinder. Plus the fact that whenever I go to wreckers, a majority of the magnas there were ex-LPG cars. Sure there are savings to be had with the cheap price of gas vs. the price of fuel these days, but the fact that gas has no natural lubrication for the engine like fuel does, and the fact that it's highly pressurized and requires constant maintenance... it just seems like all the cost saving may eventually get cancelled out...

Just something to think about really...
