Hi All,

Long time reader, first time poster!

Im after some advice / diagnosis. Have got a 94 TS Magna, regularly serviced etc etc...recently its developed an annoying habit. When turning left and right, usually when going slow (carpark speed, out of driveway etc etc) I hear 1. a clunking / clicking sound from the left hand side (this happens when turning both right and left) and 2. i also hear a foul screaching sound, like a loose / tight / slipping belt (excuse lack of terminology) sort of a sound.

Ive checked both my CV Boots - their in tact. Ive monitored my Power Steering Fluid level, and thats stayed the same for about a fortnight now. And ive also been concious of any sort of steering loss - it appears to be fine.

Im thinking maybe the power steering pump, loose belt, Inner CV Joint?? (im at a loss really - although im not all that mechanically minded).

Got it booked in on Friday - any ideads what i could be looking at hear?? Prices??? Any help whatsoever would be appreciated!!

Thanks!!

Is the "foul screeching" sound when you have your foot on the brake? Anyway, check the bolts on both front brake calipers. Mine had come loose and was giving strange noises.

I had two full cv shafts done about 9 months ago. The total cost was 460 dollars fitted - so 230 per side. You have to shop around. I went to a guy who specialises in doing them.

The screech could be the power steering belt slipping when the system is loaded up on full lock?

You could still have stuffed CV joints even with intact boots.

Screeching sound sounds like steering pump belt is on its way out.

Clunck could be the control arm bushes are stuffed.
Take it to a front end specialist and have them go over the car.

Screeching sound sounds like steering pump belt is on its way out. or loose, especially if its worse at full lock

Clunck could be the control arm bushes are stuffed. or a ball joint
Take it to a front end specialist and have them go over the car.

screeching sound would most likely be the power steering pump belt...

the lower control arm bushes you will only feel if they are damaged under braking... not steering at low speed

what you are describing sounds like your CV's need to be redone. $$
the screeching is most likely just a belt...

Afternoon All!

Just got back from the mechanics!!

Well...basically - needed a new steering rack and both drive shafts replaced! YEE HAW!!

Got the steering rack for $400 - new. They had one left at Mitsi Parts or something, so they snapped it up. This a good price?? the man said it was.

Well all going well now...no screaching and no clunking.

Thanks again for the replies!!
