Just wondering what it cost you? My engines done over 200,000kms and starting to blow a little white smoke if I leave the car idle for longer than 5 mins or so.

I did a top end rebiuld and that cost about $1000 in parts (Reco Heads, VRS Gasket set, Water pump, Plugs, Leads, Dizzy cap, Rotor Button, Thermostat etc) And so far Almost as much in labour.

Honestly mate, after doing this, i would recommend just getting a 2nd hand engine and getting that put in, if your just going to trade it in, not worth making the car almost new again

As TUFFTR said, reasonably big $$$ if it goes wrong.

Best bet is to put some stop smoke and some hella thick oil in it, and trade her in.

Stop smoke does nothing, Just cram it full of 40-70 oil lol

is this why you're selling all your stuff kim? It's a shame - i really like your car. It's very unique and...well, sexy!!!!

Yeah - although I might see what sort of offers I can get for all the modifications - as I think I'll probably be better off selling the stuff, and then selling the car as a standard model.

Maybe a nice 3.0 DOHC conversion to go with the nice car?:D

To do a proper job, you will need to do heads, around 300 each if they are reasonable, full gasket kit, pistons, big end and mains, timing belt etc

The cost will be in the 15 - 1700 with rebore, poss crank grind (always prefer to linish if poss) mark but if you intend to keep the car it is well worth the money spent.

If you decide to do it, I can get some prices, now I am back in Melb it is not that far to jump over on the boat

For a stock 6g72 I could almost do that twice over for the price, $4k is wayyyy too much.

Kim by the way does not need a new engine, after discussions with him, he needs only new stem seals

this was for pretty much new engine cleaned up around the edges to. remember there is a difference between reco and rebuilt.

Having been in the trade for 20 odd years I am aware of the difference between reco and rebuilt and no offense please but this is still too much for one of these motors.

Even with heads, guides etc this will work out cheaper. WOuld be interested to see what is given for the $$ quoted however

i have done this , it cost me 4500,00 , but i put in a sports clutch plate at the same time , it has a quicker throw and more heavy duty , i built the engine back to mitsubishi standards , all pistons , rings , rebore , all valve and valve seals , hydraulic lifters ,
i have now done 94,000klm and its sounds fantastic.

Latest is that the rings aren't the problem - as the car is only blowing smoke after it is left idling for a few minutes. The rings would blow smoke all the time.

As mal mentioned, at worst it could be the valve stem seals (not a huge problem) - but I think I was just running oil that was too thin. Am running a thicker oil now and it runs a lot cleaner with no smoke. Was worried for no reason :)

Did you notice a difference in fuel economy after the rebuild?

Hey Kim , I Have Never Got Back The Fuel Economy That I Had When I First Bought The Car , But I Am GettinG 580 Klm To The Tank On A Country Trip On Normal Fuel With Extractors , So I Dont Think That Is All Bad , I Get 440 To 490 Klm On City Traffic , Hope This Helps Cheers Norm

Hey Norm I haven't seen you around for a while. How's your car going? Any new updates on it?
Btw, howcome your last post had all capitals on the first letters lol

Just a few questions;
Was the rebuild worth the cost? Was there an immediate improvement in performance?
How come you didn't just go for a DOHC?
