Hi all,
It been a long time working and no free internet access.
Anyway bought myself a present the other week and am starting to install them
1. RPW Race extractors for AWD
2. Barry's Fuel Rail Kit
3. Barry's Gasket Kit
4. Barry's Earthing Kit
5. KYB Excel G (as my factories are wearing out I think)
Anyway stay tuned as I spent 2 hours today just removing some exhaust bolts. Man those things were on tight. Had to put it all back together to get to work tomorrow. This could be a long thread.

Finally 2 hours of work just to get the fronts off
How bad is that recirculation point.
Got the front one on and it looks hot (or cool with that coating) Plenty of room to fit it up too. So much easier than the stock ones, plenty of spanner room.
The Stock one weighs a fair bit too. I am going to get it weighed against the new headers and flex.
I tell you what being able to use the pit at work with special tools ie I spent 5 minutes per nut on the header to flex flange with a rattle gun - Grrrr Grrr Grrr Grrrr Grrr GrrrGrrrr Grrr Grrr Grrrr Grrr Grrr and at least 10 seconds on each of the ones on the block if I could reach them with the socket and elbow and 30cm extension otherwise it was in there with a small spanner and wrench wrench wrench. I feel for the guys who do this for a living.
Man there is no way you could do this without a rattle gun. The new headers on the other hand have plenty of room and are easy to get on and off.

Argghhh
Gee the back one is hard to fit.
Took about 1 hour to get the rear bank off but I can't get the new one in. Have tried moving everything that doesnt look like it will drop any fluids.
Nope its not going to fit and I am scratching the coating trying to do it. Tried from the top tried from the bottom. Its like a game of unwinable Tetris.
Well checked the fitting on the flex pipe. David warned me that there are different exhaust arrangemetns and he is right, its about 10cm short. Argh. Oh well it wasn't going to fit today anyway. So its back off with all of the new stuff and all of the old stuff refitted so that I can go to town tonight.
So close yet so having to wait until next weekend.
Also some picktures of the Flex and headers together. Hope it is OK to show them here, not a prob with intullectual property is it.

Well its on to work on the other Barry mods
Had the intake off anyway to have access to the rear bank.
So here is the new gasket going in.
Check out the gunk in those lower runners. How does that s**t get in there? I suspect that is what emission control does. That EGR pipe and the Rocker cover feed to the butterfly.
Can't quite see htem but the fuel rail mod is in.
Going to do the earthing kit hopefully today but again we have to go out so the car has to be back together again for tonight. It would be so much easier if I still had my R6 to whip around on.
Blue pipes on the left lead to the 5R racing Catch can with a Monza filter on the old lead to the butterfly on the top right. You can see my dodgy fit up of the FPR on the right side.

looking good
how are things going?
the rpw extractors look good, nice long primaries. I had a set of HM Headers fitted on the AWD and their primaries are shorter, they join before the 90 degree vertical bend, but they seem to work well. looking forward to hearing how the rpw's go

Got the Earthing Kit in on the Monday Public Holiday. Burnt up 3 hours playing around and getting things right.
The first couple of cables are easy and well fitted.
The neat two part screw makes it easy.
Some of the location are hard to get to like the last photo, that is the underside of the distributor, closest to the fire wall.

So with scratched hands I continued the work
The front head connection
The left side with the main cable (first poistion)
The left side with the earth strap and the lead that goes to the Alternator
The other end of the earth strap. Other lead goes to the horn
On the way to the horn connect to the engine mount.

The last set of photos I promise
The connection at the horn
The connection on the alternator
The connection to the Radiator (was this annoyingly finnickie)
The hard to see connection to the rear head
The final right side front head setup.

The Headers look great just got to get them in there. Much easier to pay someone to do it.
The Fuel rail was really easy as long as you watch your injectors and already have the inlet manifold off (70% if you have to take it off first).
The Earthing kit was a little difficult to do but you do not need specialist tools or a workshop like you do with the headers.
The Gasket kit is yet to prove itself up here in Darwin. The underbonnet temps are just too high. I have installed my CAI again to see if I can help the inlet keep cool. It looks like dry ice for the drags.
watch this spot for an update on the performance of these items. Well that is if you are even interested.

Hi AllPaw - and thanks for the pics
Actually you can do it from the top and front of the Dist, using an angled ring spanner - as per instructions
I use a special connector on the latest version, so now you only need to loosen the Dist nut, slide it into place and tighten

Hi
Yes I agree - it helps if you bite your tongue gently to increase concentration
Instead of using the existing bolt, you can use a bolt supplied in the kit to one of the existing holes as shown adjacent to the letter 'H'

Allpaw, from start to finish, what things did you need to remove to get all your earthing cables hooked up?

Anyone?

Anyone?
Hey there VR33XY
There's not really much to remove
It's a matter of upgrading all your existing earths (scraping painted metal surfaces, etc) and then installing the additional cables from the earthing kit integrally with them
The kit differs from the imported ones by having more cables ( the V6 requires the equivalent of 9 cables) and there is a special multi-adapter I had made to ground the important connections away from the battery - much neater than the 'circle earths' of the imported ones which are also not soldered
Cheers, Barry

So the Flex pipe I got from RPW doesnt fit. THey sent me another one. It too doesnt fit.
Hmmm
Cost quote from reputable installer $600 for custom Flex and fitting. Cost from Local installer $400. Local Exhaust place booked but very busy so will be next week now. Hopefully it wont get too much more expensive.
RPW did offer me my money back on the Flex pipe. Its less than a 1/3 the cost of the fitting and flex so I am still out by $400. Sold my R6 spare parts and got the money, not that I am short its just need to hide the extra cost from the missus.
Hope it will cost only $400 plus two days in the shop to build the different Flex.
Fuel economy has gone up to 13.5 on avarage. I hope it is because I havnt gone about making the old exhaust a good fit and I am loosing power there. Otherwise it is out with the CAI to find out what is going on.
Did I say that I think my O2 sensor was damaged by the guy that installed my front swaybar. He had to drop the exhaust and the drive shaft so he must have stripped the O2 sensor when he reinstalled it. Cost for new one about $150.
Also trying to wrangle a redback system at the same time for only a few bucks (he quoted $200 thats why I am worried). We will see.

WTF?! $400 to make up a section of flex including flange?! Which flex is wrong? The Gold one or the Platinum one lol Make sure you check the supplied flex bellow to see if it's single or double braided and replace accordingly.
Btw, didn't know Redback made an AWD system - no mention in their trade catalogue  . If it's $200 for the muffler cut and shut - go somewhere else. Maybe $120-150 tops for a sports muff only inc install.
You could always order the correct flex section from Liverpool Exhaust since they make the extractors.
Good luck.

Well actually one of them came in a gold coating. Well mate maybe you could have made me up a flex but NO I am too busy with my other 500 projects that my wife hates.

Well I assume as the arguments have gone on eearlier that they do but that it is very dronie? Is that right? or have I quoted the wrong exhaust type?

Nah Liverpool says they do not make one, except that is the item I think that I have recieved. RPW just make the rear set and say that the flex they supply fits but it doesnt fit mine.

thats around 5hp at the engine just from extractors.... not bad
dyno it at another place and you could be either infront or behind.....

Need aftermarket management. The unichip turned a 4kw gain to a 12kw at 1500rpm lower. All I had done was a 2.5 inch system, HM headers and k&N panel.

How do the torque and power curves compare though?
AllPaw
06-10-2007, 04:42 PM
The a/f ratio goes from 14.4 at below 3350rpm
It drops to average 12.2 from 3800 to red line.
I believe that the ECU is just dumping fuel.
Also the Dyno was done in Darwin so the humidity would have an effect, it was on shootout but you never know.
Torque - 210 Nm from 3800 to 5150
Next purchase Haltech E6X. $1000 not installed or tuned, ouch. Its gotta be able to get 150kw with the new ECu and maybe EZ manifold when they are ready.

is that 210nm at the wheels? cant be?
what gear?
mine had 900+nm in 4th gear atw... up from 650mn std tune
love to see the dyno sheet when you get time
but thats tractive effort, no idea what it is at the fly

Sounds good down low.
Makes a funny sound at 6k but then changes gear.
Still cant get the wheels to chirp.
If I wasnt selling I would grab one of your manifolds.
Oh yeah car is still for sale.
