Just wanted to brag a bit yeah I just bought another TP Magna today for $50 :D
Damn this thing does sick burnouts! So far my Car/magna collection is as follows:

1x 89 White EFI SE magna (Auto)
1x 90 Ugly Ass Maroon GLX Carbi (Manual!!!)
(Plus my turbo 900 Saab)

The dude I bought it off had done 80,XXXkms on it and had a carbi reco engine put in it 40,000kms ago when the block cracked or something, they are known for doing that I think, I just wish he hadn't cheaped out and got a carbie motor and not an EFI...

It has rego till January 31st, so I'll scrap my white one for its EFI and interior + all the other bits the crappy glx didnt get come september when the rego for the white one ends. What one is faster? I think the manual one because you can really launch in it but my bro tells me that the EFI should smash it.

Who's up for a cruise in a few weeks, anyone in the eastern suburbs?

the efi conversion is easy in the first gen

go efi more power etc

nothing else to do just change manifolds and wiring looms sell the rest for parts

you got a bargin
IF you can get a wiring loom. Hint: Nobody in Victoria has a manual EFI loom.

I'm sure its not going to be that hard to find a wiring loom for a magna... right?

I was looking through the paperwork the guy gave me, full service history... The biggest surprise turned out to be that the carbi engine isnt a reconditioned engine, but a brand new engine from mitsubishi! He paid $3,595 for it back in 97' so this engine has only done 40,000kms!

There seems to be a bit of water getting into the boot, also there is some rust on the boot lid and bonet so I'll transplant the good ones from my white one onto the new maroon one (after a quick matt black coat of spraypaint :D)

The engine stutters above 5000RPM so once my uni exams are over I'm going to change the oil, spark plugs and leads (I'm dreading changing the air filter though) What else could it be causing it?

That could just be the secondaires sticking a bit in your carby. So give it a clean out .Can your hear them kick in at high reve's?? Also another good idea is cleaning all the electrical plugs in the engine bay with some contact cleaner. Only 12 bucks a can but can improve how smooth it can run. I once couldn't get my tp to start but after doing the plugs in my engine bay it started first go and seems to idle better (bloodly dizzy plug:rant:

Water getting into the boot is usually due to the ridge under the rubber boot seal rusted out. Happened to mine too, and every time it rained I had water everywhere in the boot... took me months to find that! Had to throw the carpet out it all went mouldy too

I was walking around the wreckers today and I did see a manual TP there that had EFI - so if you get to pick-a-part over in kilsyth soon you should be able to snatch up the loom fairly easily. I think that one had a virtually trashed engine though, so I wouldn't bother with too many other parts from it though... hopefully it's still there as it was nearly cleared out of most the parts...

Not bad!

It's not hard finding a wiring loom for a Magna, just finding one for an EFI manual's harder.

Why is that? It should only be a two minute job.

Undo the butterfly nut on top, flick up the three or four toggle clips around the outside of the filter housing and lift off the top cover. (I always pull the hose off the cover first but there is usually enough slack that you could leave it connected). Take out the old filter element and drop in a new one.

There's no need to remove the mesh cover over the carby mouth if you are just replacing the filter element but if you do take it off, be careful not to drop anything down the carby throat.

Put the cover back on, do up the clips and the butterfly nut and you're done.

Not really. The main difference in the TP is that the auto box has economy and power modes. There were still carby TPs. EFI was optional. EFI gives you 10 more horsepower, but there's nothing wrong with a carby version that is running well.
