I'm due for new brake pads soon. I'm considering instead of just changing the pads only, I'm going to change the rotors for the slotted types for not only a better look but better performance as well. Any suggestions for a good brand of rotors and pads and how much should I be up for? I've seen lot of rotors on Ebay site from the US - anyone used them?

Hey mate.

Can only tell you what i know from experience.

Great pad is a Bendix Ultimate. I guarantee you if you put these pads on with your standard rotors you will be amazed and totally satisfied.
Have also tried other Bendix types but none come clost to the Ultimates. Dont use the Bendix Advance. They are hopless.

I have heard that Ultimates have issues with disc warping with slotted discs, have never tried the combonation but have heard this a few times. If you go Ultimates, you wont need slotted or drilled.

I have an KJ AWD with the bigger rotors and calipers and it is running bendix Advance and my KH wagon with the standard rotors and calipers has the Ultimates and the KH brakes MUCH better than the AWD. Shows you the difference.

Thanks for that. Will definitely consider your suggestions. Still awaiting for more response(s), if any, from other members.

i have rda slotted rotors on mine, and the $2 i saved over the Dba's wasnt worth it, honestly though slotted rotors arent necessary at all... and they wear out your pads far quicker...

also dont forget to flush the fluid and get some good stuff in there

Hey everyone,
Instead of starting new thread, i figured i would do some mining.

I am in the need of some new front brake pads, want high quality ones and was therefore wondering what people would suggest getting?

I don't do any track work so just need them for the street, but am spirited driver :) . Looking at spending no more than $300 for both front brake pads. Also was wondering if anybody else has had any experience with bendix ultimates, and their opinions on them?

Cheers

i bought rda slotted with lucas pads, cant recommend the combo enough :) search the forums and u'll find both have good reviews :) the lucas can be a bit dusty in the first month, but fine after that

The best thing i found about the Ultimates is that they have a great feel all round. Some pads have trade offs such as dont work too well until they have some heat in them, and some require more pressure on the pedal.
The ultimates feel just like stock pads but have more bite and less pressure is needed on the pedal and they dont fade at all or warp rotors like the factory ones can.

Cant remember off the top of my head how much they are but i think for memory they are something like $110 for fronts and maybe $90ish for rears so could possibley do the whole car for round the $200 mark.

Yeah i have been reading a lot of mixed views on both the Bendix Ultimates and Lucas pads with people saying the ultimates are loud and lucas produce heaps of dust.

Just wondering if they make EBC Greenstuff pads for 2000 TJ VR-X (single piston or whatever), and if so are they better than ultimates or lucas and would they be suited to OEM rotors and discs?

I am using Ultimates with slotted DBA rotors no issues and nothing to write home about except brake dust.

Yeah sweet. I havent experienced the warping with slotted and ultimates as i havent used slotted before but i've just heard a few people say that.
As for noise, Ultimates if installed correctly are silent. Just make sure your installer puts anti-squeal on the back of the pads.
Most pads will squeal if anti squeal isn't applied.

and remember you cant get ultimates for the awd anymore :doubt:

Yeah its either the ultimates or the lucas pads at this stage, unless anybody else has further suggestions because i don't mind how much they cost as long as they arn't noisy and are compatible with single piston, stock rotors and discs.

Question:
1. I am installing the pads myself so do you just get anti-squeal stuff from super cheap and repco?

Tried Ultimates with DBA rotors, they warped like mongerals. Called DBA they told me that had the wrong pads, called Bendix told me that issue with rotors:nuts:

Machined them and used lucas, were awasome aside from the dust until they started squealing like pigs on heat.

I've enquired about Bendix Ultimates from Repco, and the price of them is just too exorbitant, more than double for the Advance or CT's. I was going to go for the Advance (allegedly they give good braking and not much brake dust) but now that you mention they're crap, I'm not too sure!

What about protex ultra. Saw the specs on ABS' website. Does not have as high a temp
compared to Lucas but very little dust.

I have advance on my AWD and cant wait to get rid of them.

They groan like a mofo. I think they are a very ordianry pad.
Mal did some work on my car a few weeks ago and even he commented on how glazed my discs were(not a good thing).
My KH with single piston calipers with Ultimate pads brakes MUCH better than my AWD with the duel piston setup and Advance.

Ultimates arnt that expensive if you know the right people. Maybe someone on here knows a good contact in your area.
Trust me, dont waste your time with advance. No better than stock ones. Pay a bit more and get a good pad.

I put the CTs all round on my TJ and they are a good improvement over the original pads, one of the brake places told me that the advance pads are actually lower spec than the genuine pads - not sure on the truth of that but I am quite happy with the Cts. I was originally going to buy the more expensive ultimates (as I found them very good on my skyline, a little issue with squealing on light braking/ no noise on max braking) but the brake guy suggested the cheaper CTs would be a good improvement.
The CTs have a lot more feel than the genuine mitsi pads which I feel are more intended for longevity than braking performance.
I picked up both the front and rear CTs for $100, although the normal price would probably be closer to $130 for the set, brake guy gave me a good discount.

If you are in Brisi - try Slacks Creek brake and clutch in Springwood.

What ebay ones though? Just out of curiosity. They seem to be the same size front and back?

i have rda (rotor discs australia)i think) rotors on my te with bendix advance pads. A bit of dust, but stup heaps good, no warpage, the only noise i get is a hum when i put the brakes on heaps hard.

The more I read, the more confused I get! I'm tempted to go for the DBA 4000 with Bendix Advance or CT's.

I have a question about the rotors on ebay. I need to replace my front rotors and get new pads. The rotors are warped and have heat spots all over.

At $110 for the rotors and pads off ebay, would they be anything like the standard brakes?

I, too, have wondered about the rotors on Ebay motors US site. Would be interested to hear from other members' experiences, if any.

Don't go advanced. They are No good.

I was at bursons yesterday and they told me that Advance are being deleted from the range because they are no good.

I would go standard rotors(leave your current ones on there if they are fine) and bendix Ultimates.
This will be more than enough for what you need.

I bought front and rear rotors and pads over EBay off a place in Melbourne. Worked fine and I tried some kevlar pads that worked a bit better. However, I got hold of a set of Ralliart brakes and only used the EBay ones for about 3000km so I'm keeping the standard pads, rotor, calipers and hoses in case I want to take the car back to stock in the future ... unless someone wants to buy a complete front and rear gen3 brake setup.
