wreckers? and first gens have yellow tops:D 2nd gen had blue tops
plus i don't see the benifit of having blue tops unless ur motor has some work done to it.plus u'll need a better fuel pressure regulator to get the best out of the blue tops.

If you can't find any at a wreckers please let me know, as I have a spare set of both lying around that I've cleaned up.

For a price. :P

Putting bluetops in an otherwise unmodded car does work, but it only really worsens the economy.

Wrecker prices for injectors are normally $11-15 each, uncleaned.

when you say that do work,in what way and worsens the economy by how much

Can't tell you, for I have not done it myself. The car will run, but it may run very rich, due to the larger amount of fuel injected.

hmmm I don't totally agree with that... I put blue top injectors in and due to the decreased flow rate of the injectors and better misting, it brought my economy from 14L/100k down to 12L/100k... seems to idle a fair bit smoother too.

running the stock fuel reg on a gen1 would theoretically make them put in less fuel due to the lower pressure.

btw dave262, how do you know the blue tops mist better?

The blue tops run at a higher pressure than the yellow tops, and also have a overall lower max flow rate than the yellow top ones.

Fuel eco would be better cause less fuel being injected if you use stock 1st gen FPR, as BCX7 has just said. Less pressure regulated, less fuel injected.

Just some specs to clear things up.

Blue tops -

Max flow at 196cc
Max pressure at 3.3 bar / 47.8 psi

Yellow tops -

Max flow at 214cc
Max pressure at 2.5 bar / 36.2 psi

Althought slightly less max flow rate, if you have an adjustable FPR, the blue tops can more than make up the lower flow rate.

Which makes the blue top injectors a hot item for some reason, there's also some places that have done flow tests on these injectors and they're quite good, better than what holden and ford use appearently, which makes them a hot item.

Just comparing the injector heads right now, there is quite a difference in nozzle width, resulting in a more direct and narrow spray pattern from the blue tops. So think of the blue tops as a doctors scaple, and the yellow tops as a builders hammer, easy.

I heard that the narrower higher pressure was for better ignition of fuel, which would make sense cause when I put blue tops in mine, my car idled much nicer compared to beforehand.

Also if the car didn't detect enough O2 in the exhaust it's just going to turn up or down the fuel flow rate anyway.

Maybe so, but there wont be the pressure to provide it.

I thought the blues were 330cc? If so, I stand corrected.

Was that going from dirty yellowtops to cleaned and service blues? Or didn't you get the bluetops clean?

You'll now notice your engine is getting screwed because it will be running very lean, mainly around 1800-2500rpm. You'll notice the chugging misfiring sensation.

In order to fix this, you need an aftermarket adjustable fuel pressure regulator to wind the pressure up so the engine is getting enough fuel.

so after i get a fpr what should i set it to ? ......... as for the isfireing at 1800 i don't feel any of that at all

See my previous post, you want it set to about 3.3 bar / 47.8 psi at full throttle (no vacuum). To set it all up you just take the vacuum hose from the FPR to the manifold.

I've posted all this before, but people don't seem to care about advice from people that have done the mod properly.

You might not notice it running at first, but then when in about 1800-2500rpm under load you might notice it.

Also on the flat down real low you might start to notice it chugging, think it was about 1300-1500rpm (accelerating slowly), since it's not getting enough fuel at high vacuum it chugs.

ive played this game :)

blue tops on stocko reg will run your motor lean at 1800-2000 rpm it can be felt as a surge or cough. had my car on an afm after new plugs leads going on that scope thing to make sure its all firing rite. bypass the vacume line if your running blue tops fixes the problem.

rite now im running yellow tops at 33psi base with a rising rate regulator (not for wank factor i have a rather worked head/cam/plenum in final stages) seems to be about rite. i was running at 38psi car responded really well but alot of unburnt fuel when backing off or changing down it really stank. i have blue tops but my machanics bath was having issues and is away for repair so when reco injectors are free you to push them to hurry up

as for fuel econ? wtf is that you own a 1st gen so do i im over fuel econ
