I am having a oil pressure problem when the car has been driven hard. When driving normaly there is not a problem but when given a bit of stick over a distance at idle the oil press light just flickers. do ya think oil change will fix the problem as the oil and filter is allmost 10k old? is there a common problem wit oil pumps on the v6's?

i had a similar problem with my ts and oil filter change worked but i also used an extra thick oil that might be an option

if its had a bad service history it could be a build up of scum in the sump blocking the pick up

i would try putting 500ml of kero in the motor let it run for 15 min at idle. make sure the light does not come on if it does stop motor.

if all goes well drain oil and replace filter
go get some 15w 40 oil and refill it and see how it goes

had the same problem in my 1st gen. got an oil pressure guage for peace of mind and it showed that it was a wiring prob so i took the blub out of the cluster and just used the guage. more accurate.

Please do not kero flush

the best flush is the Wynns Oil System Cleaner, it will disolve scup with out sending chunks through your engine as Kero does.

Could also be oil pump, bearing wear, electical etc. Best option is to use an oil pressure guage and measure it when the light would normally come on. Best to use a mechanical guage to test if you can as then there is not interferance from your electrics.

When using thinker oil press drops not rises as most people tend to think. Thiner oil higher press.

ive used this method for years never had a problem
ive used wynns flush and had to remove sump to clear the pick up of chunks

the kero thins the oil thus getting all through the motor cleaning and thining the sluge

ive also fixed noisy lifters doing a kero flush after the wynns products have failed
each to there own

Well for the record, I have seen the compresisons in an excort motor lift from 40psi per pot to 140 per pot with Wynns and have also seen the motor from the commodore that Wynns drove from Darwin the Alice springs with not oil!

Personally I would not use a kero flush as I respect the internals of the motor and thin oil will not go anywhere that regular oil will not but as you stated each to their own

about 1 month ago i had a pajero come in to work that was blowing smoke (valve guide seals)
and the lifters were noisy, after replacing the oil and filter it was still the same.
next i tryed the wynns pro engine flush ran motor for 30 min replaced oil and filter again still no different.

note this pajero only had 90000km on it

i then used 500ml of kero in it and ran it for 15 min.
with in 5 min the noisy lifters stoped ticking.
replaced the oil and filter again, noisy lifters not noisy anymore and the motor stoped blowing smoke.

when i drained the oil out the first time with the wynns flush the oil came out clean.
when i drained the oil out the second time with the kero the oil came out very thin and a very muddy cloudy colour.
