Right. I have a first gen. It is a carby auto. The motor in it is pretty good, but the transmission is completely stuffed beyond redemption.

It has valid registration until the end of August, but is not in roadworthy condition, due to some corrosion, and a few other minor odds and ends, such as water in the taillight, and something vibrating in the driveline.

Now, here's the options.

Drive it until end of rego, and then onsell it (no rego or rwc), and purchase a 5-speed EFI TP Executive.

Fix it up into rw condition, then replace the auto with a manual transmission, and fuel inject it whilst converting. This will involve new springs/shocks, as the old ones are a little soft.

If u could get a cheap parts car then i would say it's woth it. otherwise id buy another one and use that one for a parts car seeing as there getting old and alot of wreckers and starting to stop stocking them.
well thats just what id do.

Buy the 5sp TP and keep the other one for parts :)

I'm going to fix up the obvious faults, such as the rust, mirror and lights, and see if it'll pass a roady. If it only requires minor things, I'll fix, keep and EFI it.

It's not hard to find a manual exec or even an se. I'd get rid of the carby auto now while it has some rego and buy the car you really want, you shouldn't need to spend more than $1000, minus whatever you can get for your old car.

5 speed EFI for the win.
