my TH wagon just purchased ) gets rain water into the rear end from somewhere on the rare occsions that it rains...the chipboard cover which goes over the spare tyre shows damp and is distorting from past episodes of this ...is this a well known wagon problem and if so does anyone know how the water gets in? is it from the wheel arches( I had a Falcon EB series wagon which did this) or from the roof /side panel fit up..there is a trim section around the windows which sits out proud and forms a gutter :doubt:

The trim seems to be like that on all of the 3rd gens I've come across.
From what I understand though the cargo bays of the wagons are quite waterproof. If you lift out the spare tyre, are the drain plugs in the well still there?

not that it was a wagon..but my old magna sedan had the same type of water damage to the wood panel... and the water was coming from the rubber boot seal above... not below.

dad had the same thing on his tf wagon... resulted from a rear end collasion form previous owner imo as the boot hinges arent fully straight but thats a different story.
anyway, we replaced the seals around the tailgate window and around the rear windows on the sides for about 350 all up from memory at mates rates... sorted the prob out good.... no issues since (this was about 6 months ago so winter will really tells us how effective the repair was)
EDIT: the 350 also included a new seal on the back left door as well.... so all up 5 seals

zomg my TH wagon does the same thing!
in heavy rain, my car will let water through the passenger rear window....you know the boot one that is supposed to be glued in some way lol. and also through the other windows but not very often.
i have also had about 40mm of water in my spare wheel area and my MDF is about twice the thickness it should be.
now i dont know if this is causing some of the problem, but my fuel filler spout is a bit loose. could water be getting in through there?

I'm thinking that could be a possibility. Isn't the emergency release inside that panel?

argh! this happens to me aswell! the lip around the top of the car (where you put on roof racks) has a hole in it obviously to let water in. I ripped off all the panels and found that the water was leeking through that hole and down the inside of all those panels? even into me boot lid which is where the water in my spare wheel area was coming from. I selley'd those holes and now its only comes down the sides and soaks into all me MDF which is now so out of shape/ soft and discoulored. But it dosent fill up the spare wheel bay anymore??Its like mitsubishi desgined them to do it!!
