my system currently concists of
source unit- pioneer AVH-P6850DVD
front stage- focal 165K2P's
sub- image dynamics IDMAX12D2 V.3
front stage amp- focal fp2.150... 160rms X 2 @4ohm
sub amp- focal fp1.800... 830rms X 1 @1ohm
wiring is stinger pro 0awg and 4 awg, full sound deadening courtesy of dynamat extreme
these components have cost me just on the sunny side of 5 grand, which is really depressing when i think about it, but car audio brings me so much joy so its all worth it really!!
its currently being re done so wont post up any pics yet, future upgrades will be either focal bass extension kit and a focal fp2.75 amp, that or a dynaudio 2/3 way setup depending on what takes my fancy

Finally finished my current install!!! :edit: (25Nov07)
The battery has been upgraded to a DEKA Intimidator, but I've only got a stock alternator, which seems to suffice. JL audio RCA's, Dynamat from one end of the car to the other, "0" guage distributed into "2" guage for each of the amps. All the usual stuff I guess...
At the moment I'm running:
- Pioneer DEH-8650MP with an Ipod adaptor
- 2 sets of Boston Acoustics Z6's for a front stage
- a set of Focal 690CA's for rear fill
- 2 Infinity Perfect 12.1 subs in a combined 90L ported box
- a set of Focal 1653VEs for bootlid speakers
- 3 Precision Power A1000/2 Amps, 2 for the front splits, and the other running the
bootlid speakers
- 2 F-27 Solid Audio amps running the subs
So far the splits haven't been a hassle without thier covers on, so I think I'll leave the doors as is ATM. The crossovers are huge, and need to be mounted under the seats to keep them ventilated, and out of the way.
http://www.lavendergreenooaks.com/Temporary/DOORSOPEN1.jpg
http://www.lavendergreenooaks.com/BEN/boot2reduced.jpg
The PPI amps are mounted under 12.5mm thick polycarbonate sheets, and as such require to be ventilated. I've got this sorted, by routing a tube directly from the airconditioning system straight into the amp enclosure, together with 2 fans for extra cooling and exhaust.
http://www.lavendergreenooaks.com/BEN/dayboot1.jpg
http://www.lavendergreenooaks.com/Temporary/HEAD%20UNIT.jpg
http://www.lavendergreenooaks.com/BEN/reduced%20lid%20pic1.jpg
I'm more than happy with the sound from the current setup. I don't belive I have ever owned a system previous to this that could give such clarity and control at such a high volume, so I think I will be making mainly cosmetic changes from now on.
There is still a bit more time to be put into the boot, so I keep updating these pics as I go...
Original boot layout (http://www.lavendergreenooaks.com/Temporary/Day%20Boot%20Picture.jpg)
Photo of crossovers under seat (http://www.lavendergreenooaks.com/Temporary/Boston%20crossovers%20under%20seat.jpg)
Photo of the 2 pods (http://www.lavendergreenooaks.com/Temporary/DOORSOPEN2.jpg)
Pioneer boot logo (http://www.lavendergreenooaks.com/BEN/pioneer.jpg)
In it's current configuration, it can make 136.9dB, 45Hz, 12v
:EDIT (12 Jan 08):.... I've decided that the subs have had it too easy, so I'm now pumping them with 700WRMS each (previously were running around 350watts)... I needz a termlab to see how much difference this has made though...

I think my next big purchase will be a better sub and monobloc.
Theres some little things i need to fix up, like the wiring in the boot needs to be organized/cleaned up and id like to sd my doors. Need to run another RCA to the amp to control the sub better.
System specs and upgrades:
1st Stage:
-Stock speakers
-$200 Sony MP3/WMA cheapy headunit
2nd Stage:
-Jaycar splits
-Same Sony headunit
-4x100W Jaycar amp
-Alpine Type S 12"
Somewhere in the middle in finishing stage 2 someone decided to help my boot install by rearending me. So progressed stalled for ages while i got that fixed.
3rd Stage:
-Focal 165A1 splits
-Same sony headunit
-Same jaycar amp
-Same sub
Current stage:
-Hertz HSK165 splits - purchased off MEA
-Eclipse CD3000 HU - purchased off MEA
-Same jaycar amp
-Same sub
Need to mount the tweeters better, current location is temp with bluetac :D
Anyway onto pics:

This is my install.
My dad gave me a bit of a hand mounting the sub box, but otherwise I did the install completely by myself. Really happy with how it turned out, it's no show car install, but I'm really proud of it (it's my first install, and my "handywork" skills aren't great - runs in the family :P). It's also really practical - the spare wheel comes out fine, and there's a suprising amount of room left for luggage.
All the speakers are behind their factory grills, so there was no point taking photos.
Specs:
Headunit: Pioneer DEH-6850MP
Front Speakers: Pioneer TSC-160R 6.5" Splits
Rear Speakers: JBL GTO936 6x9"s
Subwoofer: Alpine SWR-1242 12" @ 2ohm
Sub Box: Custom made, its a ported box approx. 1.5 ft^3, tuned to ~30-35hz
Speaker Amp: Alpine MRV-F345 4x 75watt
Subwoofer Amp: Alpine MRD-M605 600watt
Wiring: DNA RCAs x 3, DNA 4 gauge power wire, split into 8 gauge for each amp

Finally got some work done on my boot today.
It's been sitting in sound deadener for 4 weeks after stripping the old install out about 3 months ago. But luckily its now starting to come together.
This should give you an idea of what it will look like when its done... shape wise at least. There's alot of lighting, perspex and material to come yet.
http://img511.imageshack.us/img511/4787/hlucin8bootfq3.jpg
UPDATE 29/07/08
OMG I finally got round to getting the front stage finished... well for now anyway.
1st pair of PRS splits are in the doors and dash and the doors got a thorough coating of dynamat inside and out. now they just need more power, the 28wrms from the deck isn't really doing it for me... Once i get the amps in they will have 125wrms per speaker potential depending on the gains :D
UPDATE 11/08/08
Got the rear pair of PRS's in and the amps are in for now so there being run properly. hopefully will get the wood work fiberglass and trimming finished soon so i can get the subs in and wired up
UPDATE 18/11/08
Had a big change of plans today....

This is gonna look pretty poor by comparison to most of your installs, but it works for us.
A bit over a week ago we put in a Sony CDX-A250 head unit in:
http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r161/rhys_fairall/AMC/Photo-0011.jpg
And then yesterday installed some Sony XSGF6932X 3-Way 6x9"s in the back:
http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r161/rhys_fairall/AMC/Photo-0014.jpg
All up, including the bits and pieces we needed to install it, about $180, it sounds great compared to the old Radio headunit with just the stock fronts (still using them), and boy, do they thump! Shaking the carport roof bass! :D Still very clear sound though, very happy :)
Edit: Using 4" Sony XSGF1022X 2-Ways in the front now, sounds even better.

This is what i plan to do to mine, dodgy computer sketch of it lol, basically two subs with a clear cut out of the mitsi symbol between it and Red LED's behind it which will light it up, then same idea for the amps in the bottom, LEDs lighting up the space around it with a perspex or what ever over the top. The amps will be in a case with a hinge so with a bit of luck, ill still be able to lift that bit up to get to spare tire :S.
Im unsure of what to do for the sides weather to put speakers in it or what.
But before i do all of this. . .i need money lol

How did I choose my User name ?? Wonder no more..
The Magnat XTC 1200 Subs are in..
Its a Custom Built enclosure from 21mm MDF and Covered in Black Carpet inside and out.
It has a Blue Neon Illumintated Perspex Rear with "Magnat" laser etched into the Perspex.
Each Sub has its own tuned enclosure built to the specifications the manufacturer insisted on.
The enclosure with Subs...weighs close to 80kg so performance of the car is slightly less spirited.

At the moment I am running them off a Jensen XA4100 amp so each sub is getting 150W RMS Each Only problem is... Now the body panels flex so bad...
Front Stage is a Set of Clarion SRS1625 Splits being powered off a Sony XPlod Headunit..(Which will stay for now as it does have a dedicated Sub out)

my install in my 2002 TJ magna LE.......nothing flash at the moment
Headunit: Pioneer DEH-2950MP....out of my last car to replace the stock head unit
Front stage Amp: Jaycar 4x50w (also out of my old car) bridged into 2x160w for the front stage
Front speakers: Jaycar Response kevlar series 6.5" splits.....the yellow cone ones
Sub amp: Kenwood 900w class D mono (off a mate)
Sub: Old Schneider 12" DVC sub in ported box (borrowed off of cousin)
Rear speakers: None
Battery: Optima D34....scored it for free :)
Sounds pretty good, needs sound deadening and de-rattling everywhere.....
Want to do a corner box in the boot and a better sub, also a better headunit with more preouts would be nice.
Amps fitted to the carpeted board at the rear of the boot

Head Unit: Sony Xplod
Sub: MTX Audio 5500 dual 4 ohms coils 300 Watt RMS @ 2 ohms
Amp: Kicker ZX400.1 @ 2 ohms
Front Speakers: Pioneer Splits 6.5" and tweeter
Back Speakers: Pioneer 3 way 6x9"
Description: This is my first car and i have just done a basic/clean setup, hiding the amp under the passenger seat which not only hides the amp but lets me run a short 8 AWG power cable. for the front doors i have splits for mid bass and highs, i deadened behind the speakers and mounted the cross overs behind the door panel, i have left the stock wiring because it seem sufficient for my needs. For the boot door i have chosen 3 way 6x9's for mid bass and highs, once again running stock wires and deadener behind the speaker, because the speaker has a deeper mounting depth i had to invert the mounting brackets. For the sub i have built my own box out of 19mm ply wood and attempted to bog it up and then paint it, which i think i will do again, i also black foam which evens out the box drop to a stable 2 ohms and a gold plated terminal. I'm running an aux cable through the center console and it comes out at the hand brake, i also have a USB charger (that is piggybacked of the stock 12v power supply) under the center console with an iPod cable that also comes out at the hand brake.
