Anyone here repaired/replaced the steel wire that actuates the movement of the electric window in their 3rd gen? Both my front wires snapped within 6days of each other  and have cost $250 to replace them and 2hrs of my precious time.

So, has anyone replaced the busted wire/cable and actually suceeded? I'm considering repairing my units and selling them on exchange thru AMC to ensure a low-cost quality replacement is available for members.

Cheers.

flexible drive agencies may have been the company that manufactured the cables/reg unit. They make a lot of accelerator and clutch cable for the Australian automotive industry.

They Might be able to help u out Ian!!

Yep - they are quite cheap too! I paid $100 for an assy for a Golf.

My front passenger power windows just carked it tonight:(

Tried physically pulling the window up, but just sinks back down..is this consistent with a snapped cable?

Yes.
I ended up getting one from a wrecker as the grooves in the wheel the cable winds onto were chewed up as well as the cable being broken. (looks a bit like a pulley wheel - grooves keep the cable tidy). Cost me $120 but wasn't too hard to replace.

Well got it replaced for $300 (complete new assembly) by my local auto sparky, who ordered the parts from a mob called "electric life" in Sydney (Moorebank).
