yes it might indeed work perfect, but is the sound quality even close to that of a decent unit?

what about the menu's, are they even close to par compared with decent units?

Its these things we look at, if you just want something that will play dvd's and not worry about the quality of output then go ahead buy it. If you are like me, or most of the other guys on here (car audio enthusiasts) then you better look for a well known good quality brand that will make a quality product.

has he got his amped? have you got yours amped? If yes and no to those questions you cannot really compare.

what ya mean amped? like running an amp of them to the speakers?? cos if so yes we do and we both have the same speakers

will3690
19-06-2007, 01:21 PM
Yes i meant having speakers amped. The following extract is from a good source. I would take note of it.

and yeah amp corrections:
Amplifiers shouldnt be the most expensive part of a system in fact imo they are the least gain compared to a good source and good speakers.

In terms of priority I would go
Speakers
Source = HEADUNIT/DVD PLAYER
Preparation (deadening, mdf mounts etc)
Amps
Wiring

taken from http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?t=49190&page=2

But as i said in my first post, if your not going for top quality sound and just want it purely coz it 'will do' then go for it. But for an Audio enthusiast i would stay away.

if he was an audio enthusiast he wouldnt be asking

i say go for it there are some decent units out there... but if you have a problem with it.... you have to send it back to hong kong lol

why not go for the eurovox for aound $500 same as in the top of the line pajero etc...

even autobarn has them but over 1k

i will repeat this just to repeat this fact, look up that forum and see wats recommended, these are tried and true results of ppl using them for carpc's, which are alot more demanding in the way of graphics detail than someone who is using it occasionally for the odd dvd. lilliput's get an alrite mention in there, tho some have bad build quality issues, as do almost all incar dash monitors out there, seems to be no real perfect screen

the thing with those ebay cheap screens is that they work alright for say 12 months and then they die for no reason, my mate had one in his lancer, worked awesome for 12 months and i though geez i wish i bought it, then it suddenly stopped reading disks...

HAHA funny you mention this. My mates pioneer dvd player played up alot like that, stopped reading good cd's and just randomly locking up while changing track, then it stopped ejecting cd's properly.

I think i'm going to try and find the fold-out screens then. I seems that this type of screen is better that the flush mount. Am I wrong? it's just an impression I'm getting. The interior will look alot neater with a screen instead of a head-unit with all buttons everywhere. I will be re-doing my interior sometime soon, so I'm looking for something that will look neat when not in use.

the 2din screens look mad, if it wasnt a cash issue id definitely rather go for one of those rather than a fold out one, but a foldout one is definitely not out of the question. you can get same sound quality from 2din as you can from a single din, but thats comparing products made by similar brands. i just think even though one of those ebay things is $250, its still a $250 that will either go towards a good player or stay in your pocket. thats still quite a bit of cash for something that id recommend to get overlooked.

yeah...250 isnt pocket change.

The dounble din ones do look effin mad, but yeah, they're just so bl00dy expensive! I was looking at a pioneer one the other day $1400!!!!! I don't have anywhere near that sorta cash at the moment. The fold out single din ones are a little cheaper though, so I think I might consider that instead.

well i got it registered yesterday after so long waiting to get the RWC for it. so it'll be driving around. It'l be okay, a few nights work and i can save up a fair bit, but yeah, just thinking of which to get, which would be better value for money you know. This is, I don't want to blow out my insurance premium either...

*EDIT* for now I have a head unit, so it's okay. It's just a near-future thing I was considering.

Also, ive had a muck around with useing 2 DIN's in the 2nd gen and it wont work (Considering you want to use the original DIN and the tissue box holder below it) It literally wouldnt fit by a matter of mm's...

_x_FiReStOrM_x_ Kept his CD player in the top DIN and moulded a 6" screen below that (taking away the ciggie lighter, mirror control's, and the tissue box holder DIN thingy)

SO if you DID buy a double DIN it MIGHT not actually fit so just keep that in mind

http://www.jvc-australia.com/JVC/client/c_products_details.jsp?catID=28&prodID=229

MP3's are readable from DVD's
built-in 5.1 (both alpine and pioneer units dont have this, need an external processor)
built-in PAL TV Tuner! OMG!!
USB port
SD card slot
7-band EQ
Time Alignment (only other one i've seen with this is the eclipse)
5V line-out

RRP is $1649, but definately worth every penny. will probably be my next upgrade

Ive been looking for a screen for my magna for a while now, and have often wondered about the ebay ones. I got my mum a cheapo hu off ebay a year ago for her mx5, it cost me 65 incl postage (they now sell for no less than 90 (buy it now)) and it hasnt missed a beat, and for the price and features it is pure bang for buck. I even considered buying one to replace my pioneer 3550mp in my old car but then i got the magna. It has aux-in on the front, usb and a sd card slot on the front, and i have yet to see a 'brand' hu offer all three of those for a competitive price. It has 3 band eq, reads mp3/wma and has every other feature a mid range 'brand' hu has.

Still in regards to the screen im still not sure, as a touchscreen dvd hu is a lot more technical than a hu. Altho since those jvc ones have come on the market, im tending to lean towards them, you get all the features of the ebay ones (giga mp3, divx etc plus more tuning features), a brand name and all the things attached to that (warranty etc) and for a few hundred dollars more i think its worth the piece of mind.

I have seen those eonon ones on ebay a fair bit lately, wonder what they are like.

Mine is the 627 model. I won't say I'm 100% happy with it, but for the price, it performs very well. Bear in mind that although it claims to play all DVD's (world zone), sometimes it won't play certain disks. A couple of times, in the beginning, the screen actually froze but it hasn't happened since then. The screen menu, when it's on tuner, is nothing much. DVD resolution is very good. For me, the sound quality is acceptable. I still haven't hooked up the TV antenna because it wasn't included in the package when I bought it but as an optional accessory. (I don't have a reverse camera connected to it because my reverse parking sensors are good enough for me). Furthermore, the warranty is only 3 months! I've had mine since March this year. So if you're willing to overlook all I've mentioned, go for it!

I've had a Eonon head unit and motorised screen since August 2006 and it's still working fine. The only issue I have had is that when the screen is closed and recessed in the unit, it was buzzing on anything but smooth roads. It was because the screen was moving up and down so it must of become loose. To fix it, I stuck a strip of black foam onto the unit so now when closed, the screen rests on the little foam piece so it can't move and buzz anymore.

I'm pretty sure I saw an ad for Alpine at the Alberts store in Ossie Park that there's a deal going at the moment, where you get an Alpine screen and Alpine DVD player (DVE-5207) for around the $1000 mark. That looked a pretty good deal to me!

I've got the same DVD player in my car and is fine! Plays all region DVD's aswell as MP3 etc
