Just a quick question about the electric boot release in a KJ2.
It works fine but when i go to close the boot, i usually have to try and close it twice being the first time i close it it just bounces back up like the lock is still engaged or something.
Anyone else come across this and any ideas on how to fix?
Thanks

My TJ magna does that. I quickly learnt to only close it but applying pressure on the central top edge of the boot, and it closed every time. If I closed it by pressing at the sides, it always bounces. Don't know why. May be a defect.

Ive got a KJ boot on my KE, with a lock from a TJ, and mines does the same thing, and mines the manual lever for opening the boot. Methinks maybe its an issue on all of em?

Probable cause is that on one side the tensioner that opens the boot is held down by your hand while the other side is still being pushed up. Result is that the boot lid flexes and the locking mechanism is out of alignment. No big deal, just push in the centre.

There are two rubber stops on the bootlid that can be screwed in to make it easier. They could be out to far. They're on the corners at the edge of the boot. Also the catch is adjustable.two 10mm bolts.
Also lubricate the locking mechanism.
My dad's old EA Falcon went through 4 boot locks as the diecast lock lever keeps snapping
due to the lub drying out so that when trying to open the boot with the key snaps the
lever.

Yeah thats my guess is that it is related to the lock not releasing properly as i always push from the centre anyway. Feels like your trying to close it when the lock is still engaged or something like that. I think it might not be releasing properly.
Will lube her up and see if it helps.
Thanks.

i had the exact same problem with the manual lever one turns out the cable is still to tight and kept bouncing up when i closed it and popped up whenever i went over a speed hump so i just flicked the switch on the lock so you cannot release it from the inside never happened again... but it sucks that i have to turn the car off to get to the boot..
hope this helps

Mine only has the issue of bouncing back when not closed by pushing in the middle of the boot. Once closed it stays there :)
lol I can imagine seeing someone go over a speed hump and their boot flings open :bowrofl: :bowrofl:

I was having a look at the locking system on the boot today and all seems ok.
Funny thing is when you open it with the key, it closes fine but when you open it with the remote, you have to try and close the boot twice.
Lock looks like its in the same position when using wither the key or remote.
One thing i did find was when i moved that white plastic leaver that allows you to lock the electric release function, i shifted in half way between lock and free and the boot closed perfectly both times with either the key or remote but the only problem is that it doesnt stay in the half way position eventually sliding either way up to lock or back to free and then the boot needs 2 attempts to close again with remote.
Weird as i cant see much happening behind the lock when that lever is moved.
Might play with it a bit more.
