Gday
My vehicle is a 2001 TJ sports. I am experiencing a problem that is only occuring intermittantly. While driving along the TCL will come on followed imeddiatly by the Check Engine light. This does not seem to have any effect on how the car drives. I have checked the error codes that the ECU logs and has logged code 61 Communication with A/T ECzu system (AUTO Trans Vehicle) .
What could this possibly be????? Loose plug a bit of water some where or a failed sensor TCL or something.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Cheers Joe

As far as I know the TCL system uses the ABS sensors on the hubs. The code the ECU is logging means that the ECU is having trouble communicating with the transmission computer. I think the wheel speeds aren't matching the data the A/T is sending back to the ECU, which is telling you that you've got a traction control problem. I'd be betting on the A/T ECU or the A/T itself.

Just my thoughts though...

Now that you mention it when i got the fault codes from the computer the ABS light was flashing. I definatley think it is a sensor or electronics problem as it is not always occuring. Has anyone experienced this same problem......

If your ABS light is flashing, it could be your wheel speed sensors.

Just to clarify the abs light was flashing when i earthed terminal 1 on the diagnostics plug to obtain fault codes.....

Does this possibly mean there is a problem with the abs sensors but not the abs system as a whole. Or else the abs light would be up all the time if the system had failed......

Since I've only just gotten into 3rd Gens myself, I'm not really too sure. I've seen codes being read using the dash on a 3rd Gen, and the engine light, neutral light and ABS light were all flashing steadily, which meant that there were no errors.

Electronic problems are always hard to track down. Does the car behave any differently when the traction and engine lights come on?

There does not seem to be any difference to the way the car behaves when these lights come up. What im really worried about is problems in the long term if this error is not corrected. That and the wife spins out everytime she sees the lights and pullss over!!!!!
