Hi all...
the TJ has been playing up...
the battery was dying, as usual it would start, die, then be ok with the second start.
i left it too long to get a new battery, so it became a little hard to crank over.
i have just replaced the battery yesterday, but it still feels a bit hesitant to kick over???
could this be the starter motor?... and it idles crap too.. i only repalced the oil and spark plugs about 3500klms ago?????????

I've just had the same problem with my TF, dying on idle. Turns out that the idle motor was full of oil due to a leak somewhere yet to be found, and was cuase the motor to cut out on low revs. MIght help find the problem anyways...

it hasn't died on idle yet.... :-)
i know the first time it cuts out is definitely as battery problem,
but now that the battery has been replaced, it's the hesitation to start that is the issue, but also the really rough idle..the tacho is sitting where it's supposed to be..???

What speed is it idling at? You may have an issue with the distributor or spark plug leads, which in any car will cause poor idle and starting issues. It may have been an issue even before you got the new battery. First thing I would check is the distributor cap and rotor. Carbon brushes in the cap do wear out over time, and the rotor will wear down on the end, subsequently also destroying the pins in the cap too.

Have you checked timing? This was hapening with my TR, turn out the timing was just a little off.

timing belt done about 12000 klms ago, it was running fine until about 2000 km ago (the idle that is)

might get this looked at.. and yes, it was idling bad before the battery change was done
