Hi All.
This is my first post here so here goes.
I have a TP magna wagon in the family and it has been a reliable beast for my sister for some time and for a number of reasons I am not keen to get rid of it.
Both the power steering pump and rack are leaking but I am not keen to get a pro to do this. I am pretty handy, having learnt my way around vehicle through dabbling in french classics so am comfortable there, but have NEVER done any work regarding power steering.

Can anyone quickly run down the basics of what would be required to remove and reinstall these two items? Things to include would be any special tools that may be required and any parts like washers or seals that will need to be replaced.

Are parts interchangeable between other model magnas?

Is pick-a-part or u-pull-it a reliable source for such items?

Thanks, and nice site.

Before someone who has a 1st gen answers this properly, Have you got a gregorys manual and had a flick though? Probably worth going to supercheap and having a read there on the shelves just to see if they give you enough detail. also saves you $40 by not having to buy it lol

the leaks happen at the top seal of the rack then in the seals of the rack itself

a seal recon kit from repco will set you back approx $112

the rack itself is easy to remove from the car

the next important thing is to not loose the small orings on the pipes going into the rack

it is the hoses near the pump that leak

the pumps rarely leak if they do they can be repaired if the pump has not been let run dry

to bleed the air out of the power steering you must turn the wheel side to side and not let the resivior run dry during this proceedure the air will bleed out and you will need to refill a few times

french classics mmmm aussie frogs froum

tools
circlip pliers

screwdrivers metric sockets

brakeline spanners to go over the pipe nuts

tie rod seperator tool ...... hammer

sounds like you are going to a wrecker and fit second hand parts
only buy a TP system

keep the reciepts in case those parts leak also

on the power steering pump there is a small bolt you undo throught the pumps pully
and then the large through bolt which is stepped
