What are you going to mount them to?

i was thinking about cutting a hole and putting spacers in.. or maybe turning them around so the depth of the speakers face out..

highly illegal and if you get caught, your car will be defected and it will cost you thousands to be re-engineered. The parcel shelf is part of the metal structure of the car, which you're not allowed to modify in any way because it weakens the chasis.

The only way i see you'd be able to do it was to mount some sort of mdf cut out underneath the parcel shelf cover, then use this to mount speaker mounts onto.

I wasn't planning on cutting the metal structure behind the shelf.. MDF will be the best bet to mount the speakers i reckon.. still not sure which way to face them.. i dont reckon i would get much sound out of them if there facing towards the boot.. it would look sweet as tho :)

Higher frequencies are directional so yeah you'll need to aim these or the quality of sound just wont carry to the front specially the tweeters.

my 2 cents worth from when I put my splits in. (not in the rear)

I used the fibreglass pods in the rear of my old lancer. worked well cos the pod made a sealed box for the woofer and the tweeter faced the cabin. looked a treat!

make a custom fibreglass parcel shelf then your 6x9's could fit in as well could look nice

wont make ur car sound any better either way, but as long as you know its just for show then you may as well invert them.

I'd at least put them in the rear doors in nice pods if you are aiming for a showy system.

Why wouldnt it sound better?? with one amp running the front and back rockford speakers i am sure it would sound good.. customising the parcel shelf would be a better choice i reckon with a bit of fibre glass..

it wouldnt sound better because your going to have all sorts of frequencies, being played differently from every set of speakers, bouncing around in all sorts of directions, throwing one the finer qualities of the sound.

while it certainly will play louder with clarity, sounding better it will not. but in the sense of 'sounding better' that we refer to, most people dont really care for, so if thats the case, which it probably is, then the more the merrier :P

also where you refer to 1 amp running the front and rear speakers, do you mean a 2 channel, or 4 channel amp?

pick which sounds better out of the current 6x9s or the rockford fosgate's you wanna fit, and just have one pair in the back.

or, if you wanna spend money making it sound better (you did say better, not louder) buy even better speakers for the front instead of wasting money on the rear.
