I got my TJ VR-X lowered today. Went for King Low springs all around with KYB shocks.
What a difference! Even though the VR-X has the "sportier" suspension set-up compared to the base models.... the difference is night and day. I haven't been able to give the car a good thrashing, as it's been raining, but nonetheless.... the steering feels a lot more responsive. Like someone here has said, the car sticks to the road like **** sticks to carpet. Even at grandma speeds, the car feels a lot less floaty. Body roll has practically been eliminated too.
The trade-off? Ride is noticably firmer, but it's still pretty comfortable. If you consistently did outback driving (ie lived out bush, drove to coast every weekend) it'd probably get a bit wearing. However I've driven it around town and on 100km/h highway, and it's pretty comfy. Even my dad, who is really anal about ride (so much so that we've only got 18" wheels on our VE SS... trust me, they're really small), said that it rode pretty reasonably. He also commented that there was less "tyre thump" (his words, not mine) than before, and compared to his VE.
I was worried that the springs wouldn't be low enough, but I'm happy with their height. The dude measured them, and the front's been dropped 40mm and the back 30mm (although apparently my rear springs weren't factory standard). This is perfect as my insurer will only allow lowering up to 40mm. This is also the main reason why I didn't go for Superlows at the front. Plus I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be able to make it up our driveway here at home if I had Superlows lol.
Now I'm sure you all want pics.... so here they are. They aren't that great because it's raining - I'll take some better ones when the rain clears up and I give the car a wash - but they give you a pretty good idea.
